Jenny and Helena, thanks for your replies. It's always interesting talking to basenji people. The lady didn't mention the name of the bitch. She did say that Little Brown Jug went to live with someone on the Isle of White. She also said that she's never heard a Basenji yodel, unfortunately Kwame wouldn't perform for her.

@Kananga: I know negative reinforcement is the wrong way to deal with Basenjis (or any dog for that matter), but even when I simply say "No!" in a firm tone, my B thinks it's all a game and turns extremely playful, usually doing his play bow and running around. I just think it's comical, and truthfully I think he knows that, and that's why he does it anyways. I'm trying to curb his jumping/nipping at times. Normally I ignore it (so he doesn't equate that with getting attention), but he nipped me when I wasn't watching so it caught me off-guard, instinctively thought to be firm with saying "No". I thought it was a strange response and wanted to know if this is a common response from Basenjis. Such clowns they can be sometimes. :rolleyes: Ok, I have stopped laughing now!!! Yes, be glad you have a clown! Sounds deft but, an unanimated Basenji is only a sad or sick Basenji! The rest of the replies I ditto! It is common from all the reading I have had and experienced with my first when he was younger (But a clown is so cute! as long as it is not aggressive in context-but reallly!!! too funny):eek:

Those look very nice. I use harnesses for Eddie due to neck issues that presented as a severe limp right front leg/shoulder. A good friend/chiro felt around and thought it was actually neck, so we do "gently pull his head off' stretches when he seems stiff and that , combined with a 'step-in' harness has made a huge difference. I hope your Nicky is better soon and that the harness helps him as much as one helped Eddie.

you got me searching through some old crufts catalogues for the 1950s, and the Andersons were just about the only scottish based exhibitors - could she perhaps just have had dogs from them? The seemed to have moved about quite a bit in the 50s thru north England/Scotland, and back in those days the bred prolifically so there would be lots of basenjis out there.. Will be really interesing to find out who she is and who the dogs were - keep us informed!

He is completely joking about the rabies and vet. Both my babies had their rabies shot and up to dye on shots. My arm is fine now I have been taking care of it. Thank ya for your concerns. Everything he wrote did happen he was just being silly with the whole voodoo magic.

The hunting dog trainer I work for has stressed the dangers of foxtails to me several times in the 2 years I've been there. He and another local trainer have actually each had one of their dogs die from getting a foxtail up their nose or in their eye & boring itself deeper into the cavity and causing an infection. Granted these guys have been in dogs for over 30 years and 15 years (respectively)….and this is two dogs out of hundreds over a lifetime....so it isn't a HUGE risk but it is still a risk. This year is really bad for foxtails too where we live....they are growing up everywhere! All we can do is check the dogs over really well after we take them for a run....hard to avoid them when you are training hunting dogs, can't exactly keep them out of the fields :)

That is hilarious! Probably talking to a dog outside! My 17 year old cat has never meowed, she has always said "mat, mat, mat, mat" over and over. Perhaps she's calling Matt? Maybe wanting us to put a mat down? Doesn't have a clue she's a cat? All I know, is meow isn't in her vocabulary.
