My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

@nyoung15 My basenji was super picky when he was a puppy.... until I started to cook for him amazing recipies heheeh, but then pandemic season was over and I had to go back to work and started to give him whole barf ( raw food ) it comes with meat veggies, fruits, raw bones and vitamines.

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

Are you wanting to get involved in a Guardian program (i.e.; become a foster home)? Or are you wanting to adopt an adult dog, or get on a waiting list for the next litter? Also, since this could be related to geography, is there a specific country or region that you are inquiring about?

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. @golfdiva He is adorable - agree w/ @ Tanza many dogs breeds have some of the basenji characteristics. He very well could be part basenj but the only way to know for sure is a DNA test. Regardless- he’s a lucky to have found a loving home. Enjoy him and keep us posted if you find out for sure his genealogy. 🐾❤️

@Alex Always suggest that it is a male/female pair... of course it would depend on each disposition... but rule of thumb is male/female...so I would think that you might be better with one of each sex, that said, your breeder for the dobie can help you with that especially since Chance is older (way older... LOL) now and yes, always suggest separate feeding... I have always used crates to feed them in... But disagree that temperament doesn't matter in the beginning, but it can... so make sure that your pup has a good temperament and from a responsible breeder.

Hmmm… seems like we need a 23andMe solution for our pups. How bout we call it K9andme. I can remember most of my pups markings and have 100s of pics to refer to. That said they do change pretty fast. Our pup D’Otto was a split head with a nice dot right in white. It started as a dot and it’s still there! But it’s a bit more of an oval these days.
