Attack isn't the only part of dog parks I dislike. I think they are dirty and a pet owner doesn't know if the other dogs are being well taken care of and vetted. My vet agrees and went a step further to say that highway rest stops were one of the worst places for disease.

Good to know about the Vizslas.. really lovely dogs - I met one at my Vet office the other day and he was a truly stunning dog. The owner told me they are super up for hiking which was a major plus. Gotta love our dogs who keep our toes jumping, heheh! Looove the Shiba-Inu story! I have been wary of the Shibas cause I have met more than a handful - and none of them turned out to be very nice with ppl out side of "their ppl". I was afraid they might be too sensitive for my lifestyle, but they are soooooo pretty!! With those coats! –if you make it over you can bring your BW =) heheh! This is just a random side comment - but in looking at a bunch of different breeders, I'm surprised that so many of them don't describe their dogs temperaments/behaviors etc. They talk about their breeding programs but not much about the dogs - seems like every real Basenji breeder's site has a page devoted to 'WARNING!' curious owners to be.. heheh! although I read this on a Husky breeders site and I had to laugh: "Left unattended for long periods of time can lead them to seeking something to take the place of that lack of attention. They may even tear something up." rephrased in Basenji terms: Left unattended for long or short periods of time will lead them to seeking something to take the place of that lack of attention..They will utterly destroy a variety of objects in your house, this is to be expected. Deal.

@dmcarty: There is info posted at these websites if you are interested in seeing more - www.podengo-pequeno.com and www.podengo-mediogrande.com Those sites were really interesting thanks for posting them. I've been following this since you first had us guess what breed you were importing. Nice to follow the progress! :)

Thats awesome! I used to do that hike all the time when I was a kid- never took a dog with me, though. I think the five mile loop hike is the one we used to do with school once a year. Wow- I really miss that!

I agree!! Although it was the geometry teacher/terrorist that just about drove me nuts! Why did I need to know how to prove a triangle was a triangle when we learned how to identify one in kindergarten! And by using a lot easier criteria!!! That was a good laugh! Thanks for sharing. Pat

@Schouiffy: The only older Dog organization en Suisse I have heard of is http://www.oasis-des-veterans.com but I dont know if she matches up older dogs with older ppl - she does adopt them out though. =) made my heart melt, and my eyes get a bit watery - so I had to "godparent" a dog. That's a good idea to become a godmother, I'll check the site; I felt like you when a saw a program on TV, as the person who looks after older dogs lets elderly people adopt them and if they die, she takes the dogs back! All the dogs were crippled, half blind, no teeth, etc, etc, I was nearly in tears at the end of the programme, getting too sentimental I think! Saying that, the dogs looked much happier than a lot of elderly people in old people's homes!

Danny, good to hear from you!! I have an X-mas order hanging in limbo on my computer. I'm just waiting to hear from my family on color, size, and style. Do you still have the buttons available? I'd love to buy some of those as well. (We have many retired military now in education in my district. ID lanyard buttons/pins are a standard ice breaker in my area and would help to spread the word about your organization) rnasto….thanks for the follow up. Perhaps on Danny's web site he'll post a wish list with 'look at' links and pay pal with an automatic "send to", to save-a-vet. Many of our zoo's in the U.S. do this. It works well for those that shop on line and have limited time but extra income :D .

There is a special place in hell for folks who do this to animals. I totally believe that. I am sad for the dogs, but at least now the are being helped or put out of their pain. Sigh

My take on the situation is this: I have an unruly barky dog - Duke - Who is the light of my life. My neighbor on one side is annoyed at his startling bark at them. While - I think back when their now adult children were kids were at times an absolute annoyance to me - but I also enjoyed hearing kids be kids. Their noise for the most part did not bother me, because I love hearing life. (however the beat of a basketball thumping in the wee hours of the night was awful) But they are grown up now and fantastic college educated people. We all do the best we can for what we have - I know that one day - all too soon, Duke's barking will subside due to his maturity. Patience - patience is my best advice. A dog that barks does not inflict pain…

What is it with MILs and chain forwards? I really have no interest in any of them, but DHs mom keeps sending them. DH's stepmother actually never emails us a letter….only forwards......sometimes 4 or 5 a day.

"They say" that suicides are really selfish - never thinking about what they leave behind. But this story sure shows how loyal our dogs can be.

I just saw the post that your sister won the yard makeover - post a picture or two when finished.
