Hey there, welcome back. Do you remember the first member name she used? I would like to look at previous posts to remember Molly better. She seems like such a sweetie girl!

@gneigum: Thank you for the compliments to my dogs. There is not much that I can share about them, as they have only been in our home about three months, although my wife & I agree that it seems like they've been here all their lives. We were blessed to become aquainted with Simone Gaudet - www.beaubri.com - who gave us the lead. The dogs names are Nathaniel (6 in Jan. 09)pedigree at http://www.beaubri.com/Nate.html & Callie (5 in Nov. 08)pedigree at http://www.terrarust.com/pedigree-callie.html. They are, for the most part, very well behaved, & have adjusted extremely well to our home. Callie is like a bossy sister to Nate, & lets him know when she is unhappy with his presence. She is also very protective of her new home & I have to work with her to curb some agression issues with some visitors. Aside from that, we are enjoying them very much. I would enjoy hearing about your B(s) also. G Nate is my girl, Ruby's (Ch. Eldorado 'n Akuaba's Bejeweled) sire. :)

@BasenjiDiva: Sorry if this sounds dumb but when you talk about tattooing your dogs, are you talking about actual tattoos or do you just keep marking them yourselves. And…if they are actually tattooed, who does it? The vet? Pat They are real tattoos and usually done by a tattoo artist…. there are some dog people that have gotten really good at it and will have clinics at shows. The one we had here in No. California retired... she was really good, made them nice and small... some vets to it, but not many anymore and some I have seen are horrible... Mine are on the skin just above the hind leg.. and it would take maybe 10mins tops.... 90% of the dogs didn't mind either and the worst part was putting them on their backs... not the tattoo itself

@wizard: I use newspapers in the crate - Luny destroys it everyday (doesn't eat it as far as I can tell) but the ink does get on their paws so you have to be sure to wash them or you'll get the ink transferred everywhere else they walk (newspaper ink is made from corn or soybean so it won't harm them either). If you want to use newspaper and don't want to worry about the ink, you can buy the end of the rolls at you local newspaper. That is what I buy when we have pups. They usually measure how many inches are left on the roll and charge accordingly.

Welcome to our pack - you'll find basenjis have their own unique quirks so feel free to ask questions, post frustrations, and share good times. We've all "been there, done that".

That was a great story. My 12 year old Welsh Corgi did the same thing a couple of years ago. The vet watched her but she wasn't sick. Didn't learn from experience either - thankfully I did. I just recently "rescued" a Basenji from a puppy mill. Her name is Glory - my 6 year old Granddaughter really liked the name. Glory is wonderful but I have never seen a puppy clutter up a room as fast as she can. My 4 year old Corgi hides under the computer desk when Glory goes on one of her "rampages."

As others have said - thank you for recognizing the qualities of the 'mature' dog. Best of luck to you and your new companions.

Hi everyone, I just found this forum. I have had my 2 basenji's for 3 years coming this dec 29th. They are brother/sister. We are located here in peoria, az. They are a handful especially the male who gets into everything that is not nailed down. We did all the research and new what we were getting into, that why we have 2. A tired basenji is a good banenji. We take them to the "bark park" every weekend. Its their time to meet and greet everyone. Good luck one your pup..take lots of pictures. We have taken ours to Petsmart for the professional pictures every year. It takes about 1 hour until they get the right shot. My male is very active and moves alot. Right now the little girl has valley fever we are trying to get her tiger count down, but next year I want to add to our family, (if the male alowes it). lol:)

We are in Granby. I've met Basenjis but didn't really have a chance to interact with them. I would love to meet!

@mauigirl: Okay I actually went and found the e-mail I sent in to order the collar. The collars are from Northwind Catalog. Their medium collar is adjustable from 10" to 16" On the first collar I ordered I requested that it be 3" smaller than the medium size (Zip, girl), and the second I ordered I asked it to be 2" smaller (Riley, boy, bigger). In hindsight the medium as is would have been fine. On both of our dogs the collars are adjusted to just about as big as they can go so 13" on Zip and 14" on Riley (his is snugger going over his head but still loose around his neck). And the allowance looks to be 3" (that extra loop in a martingale that make it instantaneously adjustable) Sorry that took me so long, I ended up staying at work til 1am that night! Thank you very, very much !! It's past midnight now so I'll check it in the morning. Greetz UPDATE : Yes, they are the right size !:D
