@Lei: I want to thank you for the information I have learned just by reading your posts. Now I know Im not alone in some of the behaviors. Dont get me wrong I love her to death, I've learned I cant treat her like a normal dog. If I dont lock the screen door she jumps up and hits the handle with her paw and out she goes. She gets into the cubbard where her treats are. I had to move them. The only time she makes a sounds is when she hears something outside or in the middle of the night. She will jump on me and wont leave me alone until i get up. I like that. I feel safer to know that no one can sneak around. She lets me know someone is here before they knock. My kids love her too. They say Lei Lei is thier little sister. I just wanted you guys know i have enjoyed the pics and the comments you have about your own babies. Yup… sounds like you're a typical Basenji mom :D We are a little crazy, but it's okay. It's a good crazy and we have good company. :-)

Welcome from our Dude to yours! Our boy Dude (Ch. Illusion's Lonestar) got his name because he was the most laid back B we've ever had. He loves everyone, people and dogs, he's just happy go lucky about everything. He also is red and white! Terry

I thought about trying to contact a reputable breeder about any " extra " dogs they may have should the BRAT adoption not work out for some reason . I just got an e-mail from the BRAT coordinator who said my home visit should be set up soon . So I'm really hopeful . I have a degree in Social Work ( though I haven't worked in the field for quite a few years ); so , my heart just gravitates toward rescue . I guess we'll see . We just REALLY need a basenji in our home.

Thanks for such a warm welcome! Because you asked, here are some photos of Jack, my Basenji-mix. boy…I hope this works - I'm not as adept at the computer as I would like to be. Cheers, Bewler [image: attachment_p_65466_0_212.jpg] [image: attachment_p_65466_1_img_2011.jpg] [image: attachment_p_65466_2_xmasjack.jpg]

@jenwilson: Hello and welcome to the forum. I just recently watched a program on Benin… I think it was one of Rick Steve's shows on PBS. Is Benin on what they call the slave coast?? Hello, I don't know who is Rick Steve I ll look for him . Yes BENIN is a slave coast particulary at OUIDAH big historic City of slave, with a museum and a tourist place monument and each year american come for a pelerinage. We are a very small country and our coast is about 250 km . I you want to know more about Benin you are welcome. Thank for welcoming.

I agree across the board. DaysiefromBenin, my older dog (Ty) takes one sniff of a cooked egg and he's out the dog door puking. The smell alone puts him over the edge. Both mine have occasional ETS if they snarf all their food early morning. I use a cheese slice on a cracker and that stops the tummy grumble and tendency to vomit. (Tyler's tummy can sometimes be heard from over 5 feet away)
