Thanks for the video link. Win or lose it's always wonderful to watch our breed in the ring….such dignity and grace, especially when there is a mandatory sit and scratch on the agenda:D

I just have to say that I found Harley a couple of weeks ago on the Enigma website, and I fell in LOOOOOOOOOOVE with him :). I really have such a soft spot for the Black/Whites, and I think he is now my all time favourite, by a country mile :D. He is just gorgeous ;).

re: "A sanctioned match is important though, I believe new clubs must hold a certain amount of matches in a certain time frame before they're allowed to hold regular dog shows. Sorta like a trial run to make sure the club can do everything needed to run the event and take care of paperwork appropriately. Also already established clubs will hold matches in the evening after the show, and I have a feeling they are a good money maker for the club since they already have all the equipment and everything taken care of for the weekend." This is partly true - a club however in order to maintain it's status as a show giving club has to complete a certain number of components in a given year - a match can be one of them. Do some do it for money - maybe - but I'll tell you from experience that at the end of a show - about the last thing a show giving club is thinking about it's doing more work! we're typically too tired!!!!! In any event a match is good practice for the dogs, the judges and a great way to get your feet wet. You will have a blast.

Those feet made me cringe. I am shocked by people fighting like that! That is truly very poor sportsmanship. :( I have never seen anything like that at American dog shows. Even if people do not particularly like each other, they either don't say anything or keep things short and polite.

Cool! You got some good ones in there. I'm excited to go someday now. You only get a glimpse of basenjis if you're lucky on the televised shows. Thanks for sharing.

He has a good hand with dog?s and is extremely knowledgeble he with several of the swedish kennel club have put their foot down when it comes to breeds that have gone to far like the Basset Hound,Mastino Napoletano etc… So our judges have now gotten order not to award these extreme bred dog?s so that the breeders will start to breed back to more sound looking dog?s.So far we have avoided any silly trends with the Basenji although a whippet kinda dog has been trying to emerge in to the show circuit hopefully that won?t be a success. One dog that I really like she has such a basenji expression is Fula Of The Congo dead but not forgotten:)

@dmcarty: Ok folks that page is great and I've used it a lot in judges education too - but that page only talks about the front - from the side view - there is a very important piece that many are missing with their basenjis - and that is the front 'fill'. Look at your B facing you - is the front hollow? is it very narrow (now if it's a puppy not too bad) Way too many B's out there have what we call 'Cathedral Fronts' meaning you could fit a church and steeple between their front legs - not visually appealing and not functional. Many times it comes with a 'front unit' set too far forward. Which again - is not functional for the breeds purpose and will impact the side gait and likely the coming at you movement in the down and back. With too little fill - animal may toe in or cross over in the front and with to much fill - elbows will be out and you may see some paddling. Just another tidbit for those looking for information Thanks for the info. So much to learn….:D Info like this would be great in a sticky. I haven't found it through reading, yet.

@Janneke: Congrats! That's great!! Lovely Chaffie :D One point to go and than you have to leave the youth class :p ;) (just kidding of course :D) hihihi, well, when he got his last point, we don;t stay in youth class. I think it's not nice to stay longer because there are more B's who want to get their point and don't like if Chafuko is also in the ring when he already got them.. I don't know when he gets his last point, the judge has to deside and who knows who he picks out to be best! There is great/beautifull competition!!!! And if we loose from tillo.. I don't mind!:D @agilebasenji: we need pics! congrats :( don't have any…. I got a job as side-handler... There was a B- breeder and all allone, during the show I walked the whole time with some B's in my hand :D and at the end with a beaultiful Cirneco... And in the big ring at the end of the day my cam said "there's a fault in the memory card.." I was sooo angry...
