A Little Nervous

Well, I don't know how these things happen. Ok, I do. My family is dog addicted. Our terrier rescue Angel was a spur of the moment thing. Our B Giz was a total happy accident. Now, accident number 3 is coming to our place on Thursday. His name is Zeus and he is a Boxer. My son has begged and pleaded for a bigger dog that the can do some roughhousing with and my husband has always loved boxers. A friend of mine's brother gave the dog to my friend because he wasn't too understanding that the newly toddling toddler wasn't something to bat around and play with. My friend has 2 other boxers and the female cannot STAND Zeus. My friend has been rotating the dogs through the house to keep them seperated and still give them all love.
Zeus is 5 and she says he is pretty calm. He knows all his commands (which is more than I can say for my stubborn Basenji ;) ) and he loves to cuddle.
My big worry is that he is just now being neutered and will come to be with us 2 days later. I am just nervous that things won't go anywhere near as smoothly as planned. Not really anything to do with his neutering, just worried in general. I brought a pillow of Zeus' in for my other 2 to check out. So far, Giz has made it his mission to roll on it every 5 minutes and Angel has made it her mission to lick Giz to death every time he does it. :o

Best wishes for you and your new pack member. Being nervous is normal, as changes come about. I'm nervous about bringing home my pup on Friday. Atleast your Boxer is house trained, right? A couple weeks in the household and everyone will be more comfortable. Paws crossed!

Big congrats, boxers are wonderful dogs, and very tolerant of other dogs.
Even though he is older, I would suggest geting him into a basic obedience class, I mean this only to build the bond between you (or your son). It can help greatly when taking in a big dog as a rescue (in sorts).
When you go get him get something that smells like your guys and give him a good rub down with it, like have them sleep with an old t-shirt in thier bed. Tha will give him some of your houses smell, and he'll be able to smell them.
Also because he's a big dog, I'd suggest a neutral place as a first introduction, like the side walk across the street or something. Paws crossed that everything works out, and make sure we get pics.

OMG! Cute…tough looking, but I'm sure he's a mush like most boxers...keep us posted on how it all goes!

OMG, I didn't realize he's a white!!! He is so adorable!!
JMO, it's to bad they cropped his ears, I don't like the whites cropped.

There is a huge misconception to the whites having health concerns. The only thing you do have to be careful of is they can sunburn easier.
A lot of people think that all whites are deaf and so on, and they are more likely to get sick, blah blah blah, and in reality, the colored version of a boxer has a 6% chance of beign deaf at birth and the whites have a 12% chance.
Now most people think that whites are more sick beause of so man BYBs breeding whites to whites or whites to colored so because of poor breeding you get sickly dogs, or dogs with hip problems, cancer etc. A white pup thrown from a well planned litter will be just as healthy as its litter mates.
About 25% of litters born are white or checked when a boxer breeder breeds a flashy to a flashy

Well, Zeus was a whirlwind in our house, for sure! He was determined to eat the other two dogs :rolleyes:, well ok, not really eat just dominate. That went fine with my terrier, she is very submissive, but not so hot with Gizzy. We were taking it slow, hoping for the best and working on the dog's comunication issues when the call came that Zeus had a forever home. :D I knew it wouldn't take long.
His new parents live about an hour from me and they had lost their Boxer not quite a year ago. They wanted another white and had seen the flier for Zues that his previous owners had put out. I volunteered to go check the new folks out, and visited with them on Sunday.
They have a great dog friendly home and a nice fenced back yard. They have family photos out of them with their last Boxer. It looks like a great place for Zeus. :o
We said our goodbyes this morning, my DH is taking him to his new home right now. I'm so excited that he found a forever home, but fostering him was a wake up call. I got massively attached in the few days he was with us. :(
I will miss him very much. The experience also made us realize that 2 dogs are plenty for our house! haha.Thanks, everyone for the advice and encouragement! You guys and gals are a first class support system!! :D :cool: :D :cool:

Our intent was to only be a foster home for Zeus. All in all, I think things would have improved with time. I talked with his new parents this morning and he is 90 lbs of happy! :D
