Zenu holds grudges like crazy too! is this a common basenji behaviour? She used to play with great danes all the time, totally fearless, until one stepped on her accidentally. After that whenever danes came around her she'd tell them off very noisily!
Another time, a lab-mix at the dog park jumped up onto the picnic table where she was napping and stepped on her and scared her good. She let out a terrible banshee scream-growl and drove the dog away, and now even a month later, whenever she sees that dog she'll go up to her and growl a bit just to say she still remembers, and the lab better be careful! Its hilarious to see a little <20lb dog scaring off a big lab mix! But I give her a little poke in the neck if she gets too aggressive and isnt listening to my command to come to me and leave the offending dog alone. That calms her down. I always let her say her piece (and she has a lot to say to dogs she holds a grudge against) but I draw the line at her actively trying to drive them out of the dog park. She could get hurt. Its funny how long they can remember an incident, though.

RE: Similar markings…
Those are nice blazes. Zenu has a slim, "L" shaped white blaze on the back of her neck. If she turns her head and neck a certain way, it looks like a crescent or a "C."

RE: Little Foxes
I get the dingo comment too, but pretty rarely compared to the fox comment. Its interesting because dingoes are quite big compared to Basenjis, IIRC, but people often mix the two up… thinking that dingos are small, and thinking that basenjis are quite large, like the size of a husky. I get a lot of, "Oh I've heard of Basenjis but I didnt know they were that tiny!"
Once, I left her outside of a store to run in and get something, and some lady told me that my dog was so cute that she was thinking of stealing her, and if I hadn't come out of the store when I did, my dog would be gone. It sounds like a joke but the woman telling me this seemed pretty serious. (and a little drunk)
I dont leave her tied up outside of stores much anymore! -
Little Foxes
I get this comment a lot from people who see me walking Zenu and want to ask questions about the breed. If I had a dime for every person who says, "Ohhh, she looks like a little fox!" I would be able to buy an expensive coffee every day!
How do strangers react to your B? do you get the "looks like a fox" comment too?

RE: Hi from Montreal
Sorry, I meant the DOB for your dog. Sally has the info on the parents. That is how Pat found that your pup is a double Victor great granddaughter.
Oh! I was wondering about that, heh. Zenu was born on Sept 11th 2007.

RE: Hi from Montreal
OK the Sire, Postal Code, was born on 6 nov 1998 and his number is HY574893 and the Dam, Downwright LonesomeDove, was born on 12 nov 2000 and her number is KW777254.
And yes looking at the pedigree both sire and dam are grandchildren of Arumbec's the Victor. I am going to look up the rest of the pedigree here and see if there are any more crossovers to carriers/affected dogs… Damn.

RE: Hi from Montreal
Also, I help Sally Wallis maintain her pedigree database and noticed that your girl isn't listed, http://pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com Would you mind providing the name of her sire and dam so I can send the information to Sally?
Sure lvoss, the Sire is Can Ch. Tagati's Postal Code and the Dam is Can Ch. Tagati's Downwright LonesomeDove.
In looking at the breeding from your breeder, there is Fanconi and dogs that produced Fanconi in the pedigree of her dogs.
Where is this? I looked at the zandebasenji's site, and I cant seem to find any reference to fanconi attached to the pedigrees of her parents. Can you include a direct link or name of the dogs who are afflicted/carriers? is it the Dam or Sire that are carriers/afflicted or is it farther back down the line? I hope she will be OK!

RE: Hi from Montreal
Her breeder is Nancy Kneen of Tagati's Basenjis.
I checked the page you've got there, and the Dam and Sire are not listed on it.
The breeder works at a vet clinic so it will be crazy easy and hopefully cheap for me to get her tested. Any idea on the cost of testing her? I'm very poor right now due to my work injury but with time I can save some cash to do it. (Unfortunately, neutering the kitten before he starts spraying is #1 priority right now)
