  • Thank you for the advice and well wishes.

I have a pic of Zeus. Who could resist this face?

  • OMG! Cute…tough looking, but I'm sure he's a mush like most boxers...keep us posted on how it all goes!

  • Good luck, sounds like it will be quite a group. Kudo's on the rescues!

  • OMG, I didn't realize he's a white!!! He is so adorable!!

JMO, it's to bad they cropped his ears, I don't like the whites cropped.

  • Isn't there some health concern for white boxers? Or am I confused?

  • @Quercus:

Isn't there some health concern for white boxers? Or am I confused?

There is a huge misconception to the whites having health concerns. The only thing you do have to be careful of is they can sunburn easier.

A lot of people think that all whites are deaf and so on, and they are more likely to get sick, blah blah blah, and in reality, the colored version of a boxer has a 6% chance of beign deaf at birth and the whites have a 12% chance.

Now most people think that whites are more sick beause of so man BYBs breeding whites to whites or whites to colored so because of poor breeding you get sickly dogs, or dogs with hip problems, cancer etc. A white pup thrown from a well planned litter will be just as healthy as its litter mates.

About 25% of litters born are white or checked when a boxer breeder breeds a flashy to a flashy

  • Well, Zeus was a whirlwind in our house, for sure! He was determined to eat the other two dogs , well ok, not really eat just dominate. That went fine with my terrier, she is very submissive, but not so hot with Gizzy. We were taking it slow, hoping for the best and working on the dog's comunication issues when the call came that Zeus had a forever home. :D I knew it wouldn't take long.

His new parents live about an hour from me and they had lost their Boxer not quite a year ago. They wanted another white and had seen the flier for Zues that his previous owners had put out. I volunteered to go check the new folks out, and visited with them on Sunday.

They have a great dog friendly home and a nice fenced back yard. They have family photos out of them with their last Boxer. It looks like a great place for Zeus. :o

We said our goodbyes this morning, my DH is taking him to his new home right now. I'm so excited that he found a forever home, but fostering him was a wake up call. I got massively attached in the few days he was with us. :(
I will miss him very much. The experience also made us realize that 2 dogs are plenty for our house! haha.

Thanks, everyone for the advice and encouragement! You guys and gals are a first class support system!! :D  :D

  • CONGRATS ZEUS!!! Don't forget to write about your new home :D :D

  • Sorry things didn't work, but vry glad that you found him a great new home!!

  • Our intent was to only be a foster home for Zeus. All in all, I think things would have improved with time. I talked with his new parents this morning and he is 90 lbs of happy! :D

Thank you all. I will know how to field questions now (it’s not like it was anyone’s business but it was making me feel uncomfortable. I felt people were looking at my beautiful girl like there was something wrong with her!) I love her so much and she truly is beautiful as are all basenjis. Now I know what to say. “Her nipples are proud nipples as yours would be if you had nursed 10 babies twice in your life. “ lol! Thank you all.

@etzbseder: I just had it re-assured that basenjis are partly just a 2-3 year old child. My roommates kid is visiting, and his mom is having the same arguments with their 3 year old son as I have with Medjai. "You just played, now you MUST go to the bathroom. I know you don't want to, but trust me, you have to." "Take a nap, you played all morning, and you always want to play later." They both will just look to see when the parent isn't looking and do what they're not supposed to. I always tell people that having a Basenji is like having a perpetual 2 yr old….so actually, you give Medjai more credit than I give mine, LOL.

When Blaze use to dig, my dad would yell, scream, throw things to no end. It didn't help. Then mom decided to "improve" the landscape. Everyday Blaze would dig a hole, she would go out there, lay some waterproof fabric, pull some larger rocks around it, and put water in it. Blaze would come out the next day to his new favourite hole, and find the water. He'd pace around for a bit, then find a new spot to dig. He did this five times, then he stopped. He hasn't dug since. He's also stopped the couch digging, but we have no claim to that. He was sneaky. He'd unzip the back of the cushion, dig out the back half of the foam, hide his rope toy or stuffed toy in it, then zip it back up. We had some lumpy cushions

hahaha. Cute photo. I had to put storage boxes under my bed because Tyler and Zoey could actually fit all the way under and would crawl around under there, and I was worried about them getting stuck–especially Tyler since he's bigger/taller than Zoey.
