@McCannClan: As for the kong, we bought him one and he really doesn't like it too much. One of the dog trainers at Petco said to fill it with a mixture of peanut butter and rice, freeze it for about an hour then give it to him. He said Faro would love it then. What do you all think? Is there a better filling that I should use. I would like for him to use it since so many people on the forums swear by them. It took me a while to get Cody interested. I tried the peanut butter filling made for kongs (nope), plain peanut butter (nope), just stuffing it with his favorite treats (that got him interested, but he got them out too quickly), liver paste filling for kongs (which he loved), and satin balls (looooved!). Now I do a mixture of the liver paste and meatballs, which he goes bananas over, and that keeps him occupied for a while. So you may have to try a few different things to find out what he likes.

Try to find somewhere that offers the IDEXX snap 4DX test. It tests for heartworm as well as lyme, erlichia and anaplasmosis. The last 3 are all rickettsial diseases that can cause behavioral changes as well. If medical causes are ruled out, there is a great group on yahoo groups called agbeh. It is the Aggressive behaviors in dogs group. It is very strict due to the sensitivity of dealing with aggressive dogs, but the files and links on the group are great, and reading through the archives is invaluable. -full disclosure: I am not the owner of the group, but I am a moderator for the group. here is the website: http://www.aggressivebehaviorsindogs.com/ and the group: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/agbeh/ -Nicole

He looks like a Basenji mix to me - and his characteristics are very like my B and the others I know - but whether or not, you are always welcome here. This is a great place to get advice and general conversation regarding all aspects of raising and loving your dog, especially when he does things you never saw a dog do before, which are very common for the Basenjis.

The choice is most certainly yours. And thank you for your interest in our breed. And now you may be able to educate others about the breed we care for.

Welcome. I don't think we've any Rat Terriers in the UK but I stand to be corrected. I've never seen one in the flesh although they sound very intriguing. Do they actually kill rats? Your Sandi sounds very intelligent. Do they get on well with other dogs? What are their temperaments like?

I believe we are meeting on Feb 7-lots of people are planning to attend. Should be a fun time. One of the most (what I consider) informative Basenji People is going to be there-Anne Smith.

Welcome to the forums. Sounds like the pecking order is being worked out. Sometimes those little snark fight sound MUCH worse than they actually are. Whoever can open their mouths widest, show the most teeth and vocalize the loudest with the most variety wins!! It's been quite a while since I had a major snark, but it certainly sounded like they were killing each other, but nary a mark or spot of blood on either one!!
