The initial blood test also revealed Diabetes Insipidus but I feel there is more to it than that and I see many of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism which i've read is usually results from medication for hypo and I had not given any such meds so it's a mystery how it was contracted. And we did lose her half brother in January which would explain added stress. Don

Yesterday Teki wouldn’t come back to the house. She was hanging out all day by our hay shed. I could see she pulled out a long pvc pipe that I previously used for my pole stakes. When hubby came home I had him go take a look. He brought the pipe up and there were FIVE chipmunks in there trying to hide from Teki! I’m thinking I’ll sign her up for barn hunt. She’d be awesome!

I am glad to hear of her improvement. Sometimes we live with dogs and don't see the changes they start so slow. It's good to make it a habit to actually inspect them monthly. I hope she keeps improving but as Sally said, too much weight gain isn't good.

@donc Actually it's not just your opinion. Some serious research is coming out about humans and animals and gut bacteria. We have truly over sterilized to the point our bodies are losing the ability to defend ourselves. LOL on testing for human allergy. I never thought about that! I wonder how often that comes up?

I hate to disagree with your breeder, but I'm with Sally. I cannot come up with any reason to sedate to test fertility issues. Sure, if she was showing signs of pain, pyometra, something obvious. But risking anesthesia makes no sense. I really would ask her what she is thinking is wrong that would justify sedating.

The alpha dog does not squeal when nipped. You should be the alpha dog, not a litter mate. Making a noise like that shows excitement, which to an already unstable minded dog, only compounds the problem. Being the alpha is a mindset. If you watch an alpha dog, they get what they want by intimidation 99% of the time. There is very little aggression but a lot of persuasion. This is why you don’t take things off a dog, you persuade them to drop whatever it is, then remove it. Being the alpha is very much about mindset, posture, willpower, stubbornness, eye contact and voice tone. When the dog nips, straighten up and assume a commanding posture / mindset. I usually say calmly but firmly “hey” in a particular tone. They know immediately that what they just did is not acceptable and that I am serious. I also hold my hand out (not closely too them) with the palm towards them. Also, never underestimate eye contact, the alpha uses it’s eyes a lot. Notice most dogs when you stare at them will stare back and then look away. Always stay calm, never angry and always be fair.

You aren’t walking him far enough. He will go if you extend your walk. Also keep a treat in your pocket to reward him after he goes.

If it is associated with constipation then use any remedy for it otherwise, try to use any remedy.

Do you want to say it could be a side effect of any antibiotic that you used during diarrhea? I think it is better to ask from your vet. Maybe he will recommend you necessary test. I don't think it's an allergy.

My "aging" dogs are fed TasteOfTheWild kibble topped with a bit of wet food (variety of good brands) or a raw medallion (duck or pheasant) and with a fair amount of water so its kind of soupy (vet suggestion). Their weight hasn't changed and my vet is very happy with their condition. He also does a CBC every year on them for monitoring purposes, which I'm happy about. I'm real skittish now with essential oil usage. A couple of friends who are into that got me started using them on my dogs but mine started having bad reactions (Teddy's allergies went berserk and he scratched off a lot of fur before I got it under control again). I do use a botanical flea/tick spray but even there one has to be very careful - I tried one that had cedar and cinnamon oil in it and it caused weird shedding and scratching.

Yeah you told me about that before and I'm clueless, but I'll try it if I need to, lol. could be the noise of occasional thump, could be they can hear it even tho we can't. Better safe than sorry. Raw bones are recommended something about cooking makes,them more brittle and splintery. However if you choose to give them to your dogs, just watch them closely and take them away when you hear crunching and scraping.

On 2/20 she had a rabies and SNAP 4 DX shot. On 3/13 - she had Lepto and DAPP shot. I really like my vet and trust him immensely.

Hi everyone, I have tried nexgard spectra on my basenji. I bought the tablets for very small dogs (weighing 2 to 3.5kg) and gave my 7kg basenji one tablet and monitored her for 12 hours, incase of an adverse reaction. There was no reaction so I gave her another tablet to equate to the full dose for a dog her size. She has not shown any ill effects at all, no diarrhoea included. It has been 24 hours since the second dose. I will buy the tablets for her weight range next month and give her a single dose. I understand that lots of people don’t medicate their dogs - I live in an area where paralysis ticks are comparatively prolific so I have made a judgement that protection is necessary.

Because by then they should be hormonally mature even if not fully structurally mature. I don't read much research - I follow experience ! Ideally, not at all, but if they MUST be spayed, then let them grow up first.
