Looking for good breeder to get a brindle pup

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • I could call his breeder- he is all the way in Fla. and we are in California. I was hoping to find someone closer to get help from. It sounds like I should first start with getting some testing done. I was just looking for some pointers. My sister in Hawaii breeds her dogs, and she really loves it. At least I have a starting point. Thanks!

  • What is your sister's kennel name?

  • I got my first two basenjis from GA and I live in CA. Their breeder has been very involved since the beginning giving advice and support and helping connect me with local contacts when needed. Is your boy's breeder a BCOA member? Are they active in the basenji community? If so, they should be able to help connect you to basenji club members in your area who can help you get started with activities like conformation or performance events and assessing your boy.

You will also need to get in touch with your boy's breeder and find out detailed information about the dogs in his pedigree. You will need to know what health testing has been done on them, are they alive, do they have any health issues, if deceased what was the cause and what was their age at death. These questions should be answered for at least 3 generations and better yet for 5 generations.

  • I will find out the name of the Kennel and let you know. It sounds like I need to go through all the paperwork I got with Mojo- I can find out more about his bloodline. Mojo is an amazing Basenji- beautiful, not many behavior issues, great temperment- he seems like a wonderful dog to breed. The whole process sounds quite complicated, and I still have much research to do. Thank you all for pointing out issues I need to research and how I might be able to get this process started. My daughter has shown him in a couple of very small shows through her 4-H club, and he did well- 2nd place for his first show! Do any of you do lure coursing with your Basenji? Just something else I believe he would enjoy- he already flushes out ducks from the neighborhood bushes.

  • Most of us here from Northern Ca lure course and do Straight Line and Oval track racing. And our local Basenji Club (Basenji Club of Northern California, www.norcalbasenjis.org) is active in putting on trials a few times a year. You can check the lure schedules at www.asfa.org or www.akc.org

  • Thanks for the links! I also found a club close to me- in Oakley, Ca. that does lure coursing, but it's mostly a greyhound club. I will look into the links you sent Thanks again!

  • Most clubs hold All Breed trials so at the actual events there will be likely be basenji people even if it is another breed club holding the event.

There are usually trials hosted by the Irish Wolfhound Club of Northern California in Oakley in February. I don't think the ASFA calendar is up to date yet so I am not sure if they will be thre are again this year or not.

  • If you can to share your boys pedigree, there are a number of breeders here that might be familar that pedigree and give you information.

Also, if you have the pedigree, you can check out health testing at www.offa.org using the dogs name and/or AKC registration number

  • Thank you all for the info. I will check out all the links for health testing. I will also be planning to go to some lure coursing trials. His pedigree goes back 3 generations- I will check out the offa site! Thanks again for all the info.- it has been very helpful!

  • You should be able to get more pedigree information on Sally Wallis's site, http://pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com

The Irish Wolfhound clubs are having lure trials in Oakley on February 12 and 13 at O'Hara Park School.

Okay so I don't repeat myself over and over... please avoid puppymills/byb pages. Go only to the the basenji club for a list of breeders, use this link"" http://basenjiclubofgb.org/breeders.php Even THEN check out the breeders. As for champdogs site... when a site allows anyone to post if they pay a fee, not a good source. If all you need is a fee and one health test to be approved to be a member, not a good site if you are looking for well bred dogs from responsible breeders. Memtuka keeps protesting.. but this info is directly from her own pages. If she has more testing, then she lacks the professionalism to comprehend that people knowledgeable about breeding would never leave out tests, nor expect puppy buyers to look for further tests. As it is, it is woeful. As is her comment that she tests only if going to breed. A good breeder tests every single dog they produce and keep because they want to know what is in the line. In response to noodle a day ago reply quote @DebraDownSouth Really??? I don't know where you are getting your misinformation from. You seem to know who I am but continue to hide behind your moniker. The stud dogs I used ARE health tested and as far as I am aware Champdogs is a reputable website. May I suggest that you check your facts yet AGAIN and retract your libelous comments.<< I am getting my info from YOUR OWN PAGES. So if your dogs are tested more than I wrote, may I suggest you correct YOUR PAGES which is where I got, and said I got, my info from. Libelous when it is your pages, that's pretty funny. All anyone has to do is click on each of your dog's individual pages and see you list only the testing I said, with only the import with significant testing. Too silly to even respond to the moniker comment.. from someone whose name here is "noodle". Most breeders here use their kennel or real names, btw. As for info on your own pages.. members can simply click and verify.. or check screencaps below. I do hope if you actually have more testing, you will care enough about the image you are portraying of a breeder who has almost no health testing done on your first bitch, nor any listed for the studs of the litters. Lazy or impressively uninformed about the importance, I don't know. 2011 Litter: YOUR PAGE: ... Absolutely doesn't say sire is tested,on either litters YOU LIST.. see screen cap below. Her "health tested" lists only Fanconi. You say PPM, but it isn't listed. Sadly, you act like that is BIG..but yet, it isn't. Your import has testing, so it isn't like you aren't aware how much needs to be done. But again, you only list Fanconi. No PRA, hip, thyroid, heart, nothing else. Sire : Ch Zordia's Indiana Jones Dam : Zordia's Kinyamkela ShCM (Health Tested) Birth Date : 7th January 2011 Contact my Breeder Health Tests Zordia's Kinyamkela ShCM Fanconi Syndrome : Probably Clear/Norm 2009 Elsa's litter arrived in the early hours of 7th January. She had 4 very lively pups - 2 boys and 2 girls.<< https://www.champdogs.co.uk/dog/20360 Next litter, the IMPORTED bitch, yep health testing. But your page says "DAM TESTED"... nothing about sire being tested. If he really is, your job to note them, not "libelous" on my part to say what YOUR PAGE says: 28th November 2015 - Basenji (Dam Health Tested) As said before your IMPORT is tested :::Hi-Lite Bulldobas Wild Child of Memetuka ShCM (Imp Fin) https://www.champdogs.co.uk/litter/38881 Sadly, the readers can click on each of your dogs to see the scant testing YOU listed: https://www.champdogs.co.uk/breeder/24278 Our Dogs Ch Bulldobas Wild Child Of Memetuka (IMP FIN) ShCM - Basenji (Health Tested) Ch Memetuka Jabali ShCM - Basenji (Health Tested) : ::: the import: Hip Score : 3/4 = 7 - 29th May 2015 PPM : CLEAR - 17th February 2015 Fanconi Syndrome : CLEAR/NORMAL - 25th February 2014 Bas_PRA1 : CLEAR/NORMAL - 11th February 2011 Memetuka Cream O'the Crop - Basenji (Health Tested) Fanconi Syndrome : CLEAR/NORMAL - 22nd March 2017 Memetuka Dealer's Choice - Basenji (Health Tested) Bas_PRA1 : CARRIER - 17th March 2016 Memetuka Hi Roller - Basenji (Health Tested)Hip Score : 4/5 = 9 - 14th June 2017..... Actually in Indiana - Baruh had an litter that I believe still has some puppies available. Linda is not online so if you email her you won't get far. If someone wants pictures contact me and I can send you pictures of who is available.
