    I have only recently learned about the Basenji breed and would like to visit local breeders around S.E. Michigan so I can learn more about them before i get one but there does not seem to be any that i can find, if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

    I am near SE Michigan…we are in NW Ohio. I didn't breed a litter this year, but I could probably point you towards some nearby breeders. Most pups that were born this year (that I know of) are spoken for, though. You might get on some lists for next year, if you decide a Basenji is a good match for you.

    Yup, you can't go wrong visiting and/or talking to Quercus and Kiroja…... they will give you the "real" scoop on this breed and give you a chance to visit with a "house" full of Basenjis...

    I am in the Downriver area and you're more than welcome to visit. I'm pretty sure all the puppies from responsible breeders around here are all spoken for. But that gives you lots of time to research and make plans for this fall. :)

    Actually in Indiana - Baruh had an litter that I believe still has some puppies available. Linda is not online so if you email her you won't get far. If someone wants pictures contact me and I can send you pictures of who is available.

    As I've said several times in different threads - Covid has brought out a plethora of would-be Basenji owners, not just in UK but across Europe. We are starting to fear dogs being dumped into Rescue when lockdown is lifted and people return to work in offices , having realised there is far more to owning a Basenji than just the facts that they don't bark, are small and keep themselves clean like cats. I have had well over 70 - probably 80 now the weekend's crop of enquiries has been dealt with per email and entered into my notes - and am at a loss to be able to tell them of a single breeder who doesn't already have a waiting list full to overflowing. Anyone posting me privately will receive a detailed response but it won't carry too much hope for this winter.

    @liz-falzone Not sure if you are one of the 60 or so would-be Basenji puppy purchasers who has emailed me privately - PC is in the hospital and I am working on my laptop so can't access the list. But that alone does tell you a great deal ! I haven't bred a litter for 12 years now but am still getting enquiries - current breeders are also inundated. We have been weeding through enquirers, putting many people off this challenging breed if they should perhaps look elsewhere, and filling lists of known 2020 winter breeders. Many have been accepting visitors and establishing a relationship. And have closed lists. But breeders this winter seem to be holding their cards close to their chests, Rescues have been rehomed and Breed Clubs don't have many intended pairings listed. I may be able to help but need to know a great deal more about you - location, knowledge of the breed, children, working from home etc. My email addresses are on the websites listed in my signature bloc

    @k1ng87: just a puppy (no show dog, just a pet too), although wouldn't mind an older dog either who is well behaved…I'll be a first time dog owner (my mom never allowed me to have one because of allergies) and heard they are great for individuals with allergies While they are good with some people with allergies, not so with everyone. Because they do shed and they do have dander, they can and do set off reactions with some people.
