• You are a quick learner. That's exactly what Jojo was thinking…. mmmmm what else can I investigate now???? She sounds like she is getting use to her new home and her new family. Hollie will bark at me sometimes too, when I try to get her to baroooo. The biggest barroooosss come when supper is cooking and her daddy comes home from work. She loves her daddy!!! This breed is so comical. I laugh all the time! Never a dull moment for a basenji owner.

  • @hdterry:

I guess BRAT forgot to include a translator for Jojo…Ha! She is entertaining and will let you pet her until your arm is tired. My husband, Don, was woo wooing at her and she sort of barked. We are looking forward to hearing her woo woo and her baroo. Sometimes I look at her and wonder what she is thinking. At times it seems like she is looking like "what can I get into know?".

Sounds like you guys are having a blast with you new B…......it's great.

The sort of bark is a Bawoof.:D

  • I hope to get some pics of her either today or tomorrow. I am trying to figure out how to get good ones and not have the red eye. I know you can erase the red eye but I don't think it ever looks liek the normal eye color…maybe it is just my camera or my program. And yes, we are enjoying Jojo. We know we made the RIGHT choice in adopting her. We are grateful that BRAT coordinator Paula in FL thought we would make a good forever home for her. We can't imagine life without her being here already. Terry

  • Jen, I thing Jojo is turning into a daddy's girl like Hollie but Don doesn't think so. Terry

  • hdterry,
how loud is the woo woo? i wish i could get mine to "speak". when my bestfriend comes over he always gives her a baroo or a couple. it is funny, it seems like he is saying "hey baby, you look cute today". if she looks "like ish" as we call it, he will only give her one.
translation -like ish, what you say when you dont look fabulous especially used in the presence of small children

  • Ambered, I don't know yet. I am still waiting. When I ask her to woo woo (for a treat) she makes an semi soft ? growly grunting sound with her front legs "marching" in place. She does look cute when she is doing it. We are still working on this. BRAT said she does woo woo "when asked nicely". Maybe we are not asking right? Will keep you posted. Terry

  • I think Jojo "may have" done a woo woo. Still not sure but it sounded like it. It was not very loud but I guess you could say a normal volume. I am still working on this one. Terry

  • Took Hollie to the dog park last night after work and she Barrroooooed everybody there. She was a happy and tired dog last night! I met another basenji owner at the park last night. She has a red & white basenji named Gidget. I am so happy to finally meet other Basenji owners here locally.

  • Alright, is Zahra weird? The only time I hear her make her Barrrrooooooing noise is when she is in the car, when we are getting close to the dog park or when she is seperated from Chase. I wouldn't think that those are happy times, it seems like she is upset. I have to admit it is kind of funny to hear her barrrroooooooing in the car, I sing along, Chase looks tortured by the noise and I am sure that other drivers looking at me think that I am insane because they can not see the dogs and even if they could they would probably still think that I am insane!

So, are they only suppose to yodel when they are happy? Was my B wired incorrectly?!

  • Zahra is not weird! Sophie (our b/w girl) has two distinct baroos, a happy one and a not so happy one. The first pops out when we come home from being out for hours or when she is playing with Stick. The second is more gutteral and comes out when she is having seperation anxiety or hears firetruck sirens. It has a higher pitch and feels like it can burst your eardrums when she lets it rip!
