• Yesterday we woke up to light rain that quickly turned into a small blizzard that dropped about 6 inches of snow on our fair town. We live off a golf course that just closed last week, so we now have huge open space right out our door for the winter.

We put on Ella's coat for the first time this year and it took all of about 10 seconds for her to rediscover that she likes snow. I unclipped her leash and let her jump and prance around the untracked snow.

We have about a one mile loop that we regularly walk around part of the golf course (usually while leashed) and for the first time ever we did the entire loop without once having to be leashed. We were doing so well that I decided to try and walk her all the way into the house without the aid of the leash. There are often lots of distractions (parking lot, other dogs and people) but our timing was good and we trotted right inside our front door just like a real dog.

We have had Ella almost two years and only on a Basenj forum might there be people that understand what a nice moment that was for us.

  • I think you definately need to provide us with a vid or pics of Ella in the snow πŸ˜ƒ
I know what you mean by her behaving like a real Dog, it does sometimes happen πŸ˜‰

LOL… and usually if they act like a "real" dog, it is quite by accident!!!

  • My dogs love snow, and coming in to lay in front of the fire even more. We have had temps in the upper 70's for the last week, kind of looking forward to snow.

  • There's something invigorating about cold snow on little basenji toesies! My Abbey loved all the snow we had last winter (unusual for us) but she was terrified of the neighbors' snow man!!
