First Kisses!

Basenji Talk

  • Aw, how sweet!

  • It's great to know that we are loved by our little four legged kids.

  • First Basenji's

Yes, it does feel good to be loved and respected(most of the time, except when there is something keeping his attention when I blow the whistle to come home…..)

  • First Basenji's

That's great! It's an amazing feeling when they do things like that!

  • Aw, that is sweet. I don't always know when Shaye is kissing to kiss us, because right from the first, when she started nipping at play, we have said "No bite - kissy kissy!" and to this day it miraculously changes from nipping to licking/kissing - you never know what they'll listen to and what will stay with them. She sure doesn't listen to much else! We have no idea whether she respects us, but she sure considers us hers, as evidenced by the welcome we get if we leave her, which we seldom do.

  • @Buddys:

It finally happened, Buddy kissed my arm this morning while we were all sitting on the porch after breakfast! He has shown affection by allowing me to mush up his face and laying his head on a body part with contentment, and cuddles, in the evening-but today he kissed me.:o. I just wanted to share this as he has been in obedience training and does like to show me how he can ignore me sometimes. I believe he finally respects me. Oh, these little steps in the relationship!!! Well, you all must know how it feels when they are little dickens most of the time, and you have to say the NO word often, but when they love ya, they love ya!!! I feel so honored….:p

Sweet, I have three B,s, they don't cuddle me, very independent, but in the mornings I always get baroo's and toe kisses, make up for all the piss & vinager energy they have.
Whats not to love about these wonderful dogs

Such a nice feeling to know that you are loved..even though B's tend to give their love out in small increments, as if not to spoil us..so considerate, don't you think?

Heh, exactly. My B only shows his affection in the morning or when I'm watching a movie, he'll rest his head on my arm until I wake up. But once the day starts he doesn't look back. Even when I get home, he just stands there waiting for me to give him a hug, he doesn't feel the need to approach me.

  • My boy Cody almost never licks/kisses me, but will wake up from a dead sleep walk over to my husband and proceed to kiss his knees and move down his legs to his feet. My husband is NOT happy by this. I think it hilarous. I swear Cody does it just to piss my husband off sometimes.

So funny, Otis will do the same thing to my husband, and he hates it royally, so Otis will kiss him even more..

We made the mistake of getting a cheap pen with horizontal wiring ($35). Then we got this as recommended by Michelle Lennon ($99). He can't get out of it, though for several weeks he could squeeze through. At 13 weeks, he's too big for that now. Regalo 192-Inch Super Wide Adjustable Baby Gate and Play Yard, 4-In-1, Bonus Kit, Includes 4 Pack of Wall Mounts Regato 192" gate I also recommend her "Dream Dog" course. I trained 9 years ago with a local pro, but this is more detailed and better organized. Takes a month for a person to get through the course, worth every penny. She also offers a lot of free content, and if you go to the "pro" level for another $75 per month, one can access three weekly zoom meetings with her and co. and get questions answered 24/7 via their facebook interface. For what one gets, it's a real bargain. I used it for a month and found it very helpful. How to Train a Dream Dog To be sure, I don't agree on every detail. For example, I do no-leash walks in woods; they don't recommend that. Also, her course is not really designed to train an active "outdoor" dog, but more for an "indoor" dog. She opposes electric fences and doggy doors. I've had great experiences for 9 years with both and will continue to use them (started electric fence training last week and making good progress). But otherwise, her course lays out solid foundation work. She trains you to be a puppy trainer and provides all the real-time help you could need. Happy training!

Sounds like your vet's office has all the right setups for boarding and for day care - my own vet's office does not have all those facilities. Wish they did! At the place where I do take them, the outside play area is covered,so climbing out is not possible, or I would worry about that as well, since our B's certainly can climb! So glad you have found a place Cody is safe and happy when boarding is necessary.

Ewww. I have gotten those kind of surprises too, with my cats. They have given up on rats because they have gotten very sick from eating them, but birds seem to be fair game. And like what Hope did, it always seems the head and legs are left. I guess the middle parts are juicy. Now, that is a great way to get your Hope used to having her teeth brushed. :) Just leave a few tooth brushes out around the house. By the time you really want to get into a teeth cleaning routine, she will love it!

There's something invigorating about cold snow on little basenji toesies! My Abbey loved all the snow we had last winter (unusual for us) but she was terrified of the neighbors' snow man!!

I must say that Storm was quite disappointed to see that my "treasure" was a twig - I think he was hoping for a squirrel or a bunny or something a little more animated! ;) :) :D And my neighbors are NOT dog people, sooooo you know darn well they think I ought to be in a straight jacket! :)
