Congrats to Maya, she looks lovely. And her pups are adorable!!!
Pups!
-
Makes me want another one, Nothing cuter then a Basenji pup in my opinion.
-
Very sweet babies! One of them looks to have a poorly eye in the first of the 4 week pics??
I think that might have just been the photo (it was getting towards dark and my camera flashed). I will have a look and take more photos this weekend
Very cute, who are the sire and dam of the litter?
And being "scared" of the outside world at that age is a bit concerning to me…. at that age they should really not even have a clue....
Her breeder prefix is LOMAR. I have been told the bitches name when we first started conversing, its been about 7-8months we've been talking so it has left my brain for now, when i remember ill surely post it.
Pups had only just started coming out of the box when i saw them at 4 wks, so behavour may change as they get more socilisation. Maybe i used the wrong words but she was still unsure of being outside the box. The other two were going in and out. We could get her out, she just prefered the box. (so far my partner and i are keen for lefty or righty, but things can change)
but when I went to visit the litter I got mine from at 5 weeks they were all incredibly outgoing and anything but scared. It looks to me from what I can see if your pics that the pups are in some sort of kennel and run?? If they have only been in that it could possibly be that the nervous one just needs a bit more socialisation, but i wouldnt risk it.
The breeder is very good with her pups. She has started to take her pups upstairs and in the house for human socialisation so this weekend should be much better.
They will be 5wks old this sunday!

I see lots of LOMAR prefix in Sally's data base. Has the sire and dam been DNA'ed for Fanconi?

I have several concerns from what you have written.
The first is that the breeder is just letting you have your pick of whichever puppy. Most responsible breeders work with their puppy buyers to find out about their households, expectations, and experience and then use that to match the puppies to the homes. There is a lot that you don't see when you are not spending hours and hours with the pups that might make a pup a bad match for your home where it may be the perfect match for another home because of those same traits.
The second thing that concerns me is that it sounds like the puppies have not been in the house around humans and household hustle and bustle from the beginning. By 5 weeks, my puppies are already exploring multiple areas and interacting with my adult dogs. I use the "Rule of 7s" or I suppose more accurately the "Rule of at least 7". By 7 weeks they should have eaten out of 7 bowls/dishes, been to 7 locations(different rooms, yard, etc), walked on 7 surfaces, met 7 people, played with 7 objects, been exposed to 7 challenges. Being exposed to all these different things and having them learn that the world is full of new and different things and that they are good and fun experiences shapes how puppies will deal with new things as they get older.

Tanza - she said they had been tested. Will get their name again
Ivoss - The breeder tells us each pups personality, so she knows them. They get handled frequently and get sociliased upstairs in the house etc (stairs, other animals, surfaces, other humans etc) they are 4 wks and 4 days today. I am sure when it comes time to pick a pup, she will give input on the two left and which would suit (she gets her pick of the litter, naturally). She is always telling us the personalities of how they are now and giving much input and comments on the pups.
She will also start teaching the pups the standard manners as-well as, stay/sit etc.
I have met and played with her other B's and they are all of a lovely nature. Beautiful temperments and personalities.
She is a responsible breeder. She sends home contracts with each pup (which include a clause that if you no long can deal with the pup she would take it back) and is making no money from the litter. She also vaccinates and microchips the dogs and sends pup with the food they are on ($700 for a pup). I trust her

I am glad that you feel comfortable with her knowledge and care. In the past few months, I have been assisting with a puppy class and have been seeing several mismatched pairs showing up so it is something that is more on my mind lately.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!

Hi, had to share these two snaps with you all, this little lady slept in my arms for a good while. I must say i am a little smitten with her
-
Too cute…. I want a wee puppy to snuggle right now:)
-
Very cute little babies! When I was choosing mine, I went for the most adventurous - and she has not changed! Their personalities show really early, so it will just be what you feel comfortable with. Good luck
-
She looks a lovely little Pup, it is so hard to choose.
-
Hi all,
Well i have chosen my little girl. But i think she chose me from the very start I ended up choosin the one in my dp. This weekend is my last visit and i pick her up next friday!
I have uploaded a few pics from our 6wk and 7wk visit. - some may be a bit dull as they were taken with my phone
So.. now the countdown begins!
-
they all look very sweet. just remember how sweet and innocent she looks when she eats your sofa.
-
So, so, sooooo cute…..I miss puppies!!!
-
You must be so excited for Friday. I envy you.
-
Awwwwww…
Congratulations Lysh :)...
I agree with agilebasenji about remembering just how cute she is NOW... Sometimes that cuteness will keep them alive, after they have done something VEWWWWWWWY bad
-
ha ha ha. yes, note to self: take lots of photos and remember the cuteness! lol i have been trying to "basenji proof" my house over the last couple of months. Both sides of the family think im mental "its just a dog"… they get 'the look' and a reply "yes, a basenji.." ive tried to explain but it goes in one ear out the other. Of course it doesnt matter too much as its just me and the other half in our household and he understands.
Now to think of names. My fav is Hope and next on the list is Ruby. However, Hope has a lot of meaning behind it all but Ruby is so pretty. So trying decide if shes a Hope or a Ruby.
-
I like Ruby, I think it would be so cute for a red and white girl…
-
How exciting for you, she's beautiful. I like either Hope or Ruby, we were toying with the idea of Hope before we picked Malaika as she was born on new years eve. My O/H also likes Asha which means hope in Swahili.
I know just what you mean about people not understanding about Basenjis, sometimes when i'm explaining what Malaikas like they give me a funny look, someone even asked me if i had taken her voluntarily
Hope the time passes super quick untill you get her.
