Nature's Variety Recall

I know other people here have talked about feeding these medallions, so I thought I would share this here.

Thanks for the heads up, we had 2 unopened bags of that lot and date, will make the 100 mile trek to st louis this weekend to exchange them for new lots. I had one other opened bag that had a different expiration date so its ok. Strange as I bought 4 bags at the same time.

At least they are going to step up their food safety…
Reed Howlett, Nature's Variety CEO, stated, "Because pet health and safety are our top priority, Nature's Variety takes every step necessary to ensure the quality and safety of our products. In addition to our industry best manufacturing practices, and in an abundance of caution, all Nature's Variety raw frozen products now will undergo a 'test and hold' period before being released for sale."

Manufacturer expands pet food recall
LINCOLN, Neb. — Nature's Variety has expanded its recall of chicken-flavored pet food because of concerns over salmonella.
The Lincoln, Neb.-based company said Monday that the raw, frozen food is being recalled because it could be contaminated with salmonella.
The recall includes three-pound packages of chicken medallions, six-pound packages of chicken patties and two-pound packages of chicken chubs.
Initially, the company recalled only packages with a best-by date of Nov. 10, 2010. Now packages with best-by dates of Oct. 29 and Nov. 9, 2010, are also being recalled.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Pets can also become ill if they consume the bacteria.I'm glad to know that both bags I used last had dates in December/2011. Hopefully they get this issue under control.
