You will not get anything in the mail if Prob Affected, only Clear and Carriers get any type of paper results.
You could just wait till they are posted on the OFA site (www.offa.org) and direct them to the site.

Why would you give the Vet my website?

  • i just checked the web site and i wouldn't come up with his resaults!.

  • so maybe he can learn a few thanks, but if u don't want me to that fine too!, but i will give him this www,ofa.org site!!.

My website is public, anyone can visit it…

  • Sometimes it takes quite awhile for the results to show up on the OFA site.

Fanconi is no longer the quick death sentence it was before Dr. Gonto's protocol, but many many vets are not knowledgeable about it. Dr. Gonto is more than willing to talk with your vet.
Because you have not seen symptoms yet, you may not need to get the blood gases yet. However, I personally would strip test for sugar in the urine more frequently, keeping in mind that some dogs spill intermittently especially in the early stages of the syndrome. The strips are relatively inexpensive and easy to read on your own - you don't need the vet to do this. You can get them at Costco or Sam's Club or any pharmacy. Just make sure you get the Diastix and not the Ketostix.
If you want, you can also join the Yahoo Fanconi Dogs list - just go to Yahoo Groups and look it up for contact info. There are people there with a wealth of experience with Fanconi affected dogs, and it's a wonderful, supportive group!

Don't panic, many dogs live long, happy, fulfilling lives with this syndrome, just love him for as long as you have him.

Terry and the Illusion Pack (6 previous dogs with Fanconi Syndrome, but I will never knowingly breed another!)

  • k thanks tanza!, but when i got on the web site at ofa.org hit don't come up with his resaults!!. when can i do now!!!.

  • Terry,
The Yahoo Fanconi list is only for dogs that are already spilling.

  • thanks tanza, i had company over and could't message back earlyer, but i have the ketone strips! i'm going to get the other one now!!.

  • It generally takes about 4 weeks or so for results to post the OFA site.

  • i'll try to get on that site right now !!, thanks again , i canceled the vet apointment for today, there was a vet that called me tellying that if it is in the early sages that it wouldn't show up in the test!, i got the call as i was reading the message u gave me saying the same thang but i didnt get that far on ur message!. thanks for everythang!!.

Often dogs don't know WHERE to go, in a new place. So, take them out every 3 hrs and treat/praise with proper elimation. Also, keep the areas of the apt your not in, closed. Keep the dog with you, and if you see the nose down, take it out. This should pass as the dog gets more settled. We travel a lot with our dogs, and we keep them with us in motel rooms, with closets, bathrooms shut. When they act like they are sniffing, we take them out. Also, extra exercise with your b will help. Good luck

Ninabeana – I'm echoing ChaseandZahra and others here but TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS on this because the p.b. certainly will pick up on them. Have your brother contact the pitbull rescue societies as well as the military support groups. It's tough I know.

I do agree with Tanza that yous hould check what is under the deck stairs that cause her booboo. My B loves to dig so I think you should check out what can hurt Lillie in case she is inclined to be a digger like my B. Hope she feels better. Give her lots of hugs and kisses.

Well, Tosca is just fine I think:) I was kinda worried last night, as the emergency vet said it would probably be ok since she only had half a pill, but they said I could call poison control to be sure. Well, that was going to be pretty expensive (55) so I wasn't too crazy calling about half of a pill, plus she seemed ok, and the vet seemed pretty confident. Then this morning I was a little worried again because she wouldn't eat more than about half her food, which is extrememly unusual, she usually gobbles it right up! But I had to go to work, and I called our usual vet on the way and they said it shouldn't be a problem. Luckily, now that I am home tonight she seems fine:) Thanks for the suggestions, we just got Tosca in Feb and this is the first time I have ever had a dog ( I was deathly scared of them as a kid) but she really has grown on me, she is so sweet, and not like a normal dog.
