Max decided to redecorate

Basenji Talk
  • When I came home the other day, Max had redecorated. He ate a hole in the rug and chewed the flaps off the bottom of our leather couch. As soon as I walked in I knew he had done something. Usually he comes running to me and is happy to see me. This time when I walked in he looked at me  and ran upstairs to hide. While I was cleaning up his mess downstairs he kept peaking around the corner. It's hard to stay angry when he looks at you with those brown pitiful eyes. He knows it too.;)

  • Phebese - Hope the rug wasn't a "persian" or too expensive. How does your sofa look without the flaps? A couple weeks ago, Duke decided a hole was necessary on the attached cushion back on my sofa. I sewed the visible hole by hand - but am in the market for a nice looking cover. I was upset about the hassle but I quickly got over it. It helped to vent here as others really understand what these B's can do - when bored because they've destroyed their own toys and/or need exercise. Somehow, being a Basenji owner opens up a whole new sense of humor . . . :D :D

  • How true!!!!! I think we are going to wait awhile before we get a new couch. As for the rug, we did a little rearranging. :) I wouldn't trade him for the world, even if he can be destructive at times. Our Max is also a black and white basenji. I haven't seen to many others. I will have to post a picture. Everytime I try it says there is an error.
    Smiles,
    Emily

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.
