Tayda and Lenny escaped from the yard!

  • ACK! I let Tayda and Lenny out last night to pee at about 10pm and after about a minute I notice they both ran to the corner of the yard where the gate is.. I ALWAYS have the gate closed. The garbage can is there too so they often hang out there in the corner sniffing around the garbage can. They were gone for too long so I walked out to make sure they were just sniffing the bushes/garbage can and the gate was WIDE open and no basenjis in sight! I have no idea how the gate got open. It was really windy so maybe it blew open but there's a latch and everything so I don't really know. I immediately freaked out and put my shoes/coat on and ran out the front door. I was already in my pj's and it was freezing and dark outside - I ran out and started yelling their names, they were no where to be seen! I kept calling and they actually came back! They were about 2 doors down… Tayda was first and Lenny followed after her. I think it was just too cold for them out there to enjoy their new found freedom. Tayda just walked right up to me and let me pick her up and Lenny was not as easy. He thought it was a game and ran away at first, but then i turned my back to him and he started sniffing something and I pounced on him and brought them both inside.

what a night! There is a lock on the gate now....

What would you do when you were a B ???;)
    I suppose I would do the same … YES !!! ADVENTURE !!! :D:D:D

  • Glad they were safe!!! They always pull things when you're least expecting it!

  • Be thankful for "cold and dark", 2 things basenjis really don't like!

Glad they are safe and sound at home.

  • @MacPack:

Be thankful for "cold and dark",

    AMEN to THAT!

  • WHEW! Glad to know that they were fairly easy to get back home. I have been having the same problem this year probably thanks to meter readers and grass cutters, etc. So now the gates are chained!

Mojo was let out the front door last winter but luckily I left about 15 minutes later to go to work and found my dog standing in the driveway. What a surprise! I didn't even know he was gone and apparently nobody else cares to check when they do things like open doors. sigh I ran into the mail lady the next day and she said she figured he belonged there because he kept standing in the driveway. I would have appreciated a knock on the door!!!

When the kids have been let loose in warmer weather they have definitely traveled further. One time I wasn't told until at least a half hour later that Mojo was out and calling didn't produce any results. He was too busy trying to play with the other dogs in the neighborhood. But I drove down the street and when I opened the door and got his attention he came running and hopped right in! Thank goodness for all those fun lure coursing trips! lol Car or no car I'm sure he would have come, but that sure made things quick and easy.

Oh my! That is a horrible feeling, isn't it!!! Your stomach just drops! I am so glad they are home safe and sound 🙂

  • One time a neighbor came up as I was exiting the yard and started talking to me and of course I forgot to close the gate. My beastie saw the open gate and thought it meant we were going for a walk. Before I could grab him, he headed off down the driveway and into the street (where several cars coming home after work) as if we were going for a walk. I didn't have my whistle and tried calling him and pretending I was hurt instead but of course that didn't work. He just looked at me like "why are you standing there, let's go". Luckily another neighbor saw what was happening and, being inquisistive, he went to her. Thank goodness all the drivers were decent and waited for the rescue. Whew!

  • Good they're save back home…
It's scaring when they pull out their B tricks...

  • Whew! Glad you got them back…definitely night & cold were on your side.

This summer I had the b-kids in the pen outside and went up to the garage to get a rake...it was in the morning. I'm in the garage, and all of a sudden I hear the pitter-patter of little feet. I turn around and both kids are in the garage. Needless to say I was    shocked. Anyway I made a big deal like I was so happy to see them and Ruby came right over to me to be patted and I picked her up. Brando wouldn't come close enough for me to get him. I started walking back to the house and I'm talking to Brando as I'm walking saying "hey Bran...let's get some cheese" and he's following me at a safe distance for him to not get caught. He follows me all the way to the porch, but then decides he wants to sniff around the side of the house. I open the door to put Ruby inside the house and as I'm going in I yell to him, "Brando, cheese". Well I go inside to the cheese drawer (I'm still holding Ruby), and the door swings closed, but then I hear the door open again and Brando runs into the house. 😃 Door closes behind him, both kids are in. Brando comes over and sits by me for his cheese. 😃 😃 Good boy!

Oh, and the reason they got free...I was in such a hurry I never noticed I forgot to close the gate...idiot mom  . That hasn't happened again!
