Brat Rescue and Transport; How they really treat rescues

She lies, given that fact. What if BRaT didn’t give her the option of the hold harmless. Given what she has already admitted, I doubt that BRaT would give her that option.

    It would explain a lot.

  • @elbrant Yeah, her posts are becoming incomprehensible again. Reminds me a lot of this one...

You might not like the responses, but none of us are your enemy. Why are you fighting with us? You came her to vent about things that were happening to you. Some of the things that you have said don't make sense, so we are asking questions. Or offering advice. We can't know everything that has happened. We don't know how this will all turn out. But none of us deserve the backlash.

You're angry. I get it. I don't care. If I have to be the big sister, or step-mom, or whoever it is you hate soooo much, then fine. I'm in your face. Pull it together! What you are doing does not help Declan. So knock it off!

Face what is happening. Because if you actually refuse to release that dog, or try to switch it for another dog, and a Sherriff/Police Officer is with Animal Control when it happens, you could end up in handcuffs.

Consider what that means. You will be escorted from your home. All of the dogs in your home could be taken into Animal Controls' custody. You might have to post bail to get out of jail before your court appearance. You will have to pay fines. You might lose your job. You might not be able to make rent and have trouble maintaining your housing. Your entire life could be turned upside down. And trust me, when that happens, it can take a long time to get back to where you are now.

Why are you willing to let that happen? Is this dog worth being a convict? Homeless? Unemployable?

You can avoid all of that. Just sign BRAT's release form. IMHO, it's the only reasonable option that you have. That has been my advice and it remains my advice. Everything else you are doing is just bringing a rainstorm down on you.

And honestly, the only one who needs to know why you are acting like this. Is Declan.

Explain it to Declan. Tell him how he isn't important enough for you to adopt him. Tell him how you would rather go to jail than sign a piece of paper. Tell him how these strangers are going to put a wire hoop around his neck so they can control him enough to get him into a container -- because you would rather fight than lift him up yourself. Tell him. Tell him he isn't worth it if you don't get paid to take care of him.

Go ahead, Heather, tell him. I don't want to hear it anymore.

Is a dog worth it? Declan is

I didn't say Declan wasn't worth it. You did. Every action you have taken says you only want Declan if he comes with a check. Go explain that to him.

  • Hi Heather, it’s hard to keep up while reading the thread because it seems like a large majority of your posts are mainly and repeatedly cut and pasted from earlier posts? But if I recall correctly, you posted a few hours ago that you’ve secured funding from elsewhere and other people so that you won’t need money from BRAT anymore? Also, I think it was in your original post or at least in one of your early posts last week (which you’ve since deleted along with most of your earliest posts at the beginning of this thread?) you mentioned your total income was $10,000? I didn’t know or read until today that you own multiple basenjis. Anyways, if you’ve now secured funding from elsewhere for Declan’s food and expenses, why indeed aren’t you signing the form so that you own him and won’t need to deal with BRAT anymore? Perhaps I’m missing something, but seems like would be the easiest option?

  • @westcoastflea1 really no point, you don’t listen.

[QUOTE=Squirt's Mom;200534]Please listen to what Marianne, Lori and others have been trying to get thru to you. This are some of our Admins and moderators who hold those positions because they have years, YEARS, of experience and knowledge under their belts....and for no other reason period.
Your repeated posts telling members to forego the ACTH in favor of the UC:CR is very, very confusing to new members and carries the potential to cause harm to their babies. I BELIEVE YOU SERIOUSLY UNDERESTIMATE THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE MEMBERS ON THIS FORUM
'I hope, HOPE, your intent is good'
    ARE YOU FOR REAL??
"but the fact that you continue to post this erroneous information after being repeatedly corrected is concerning to us all. I SEE SO ANY NEW INFORMATION OR EXPERIENCE THAT A MEMBER HAS THAT YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH IS CONSIDERED ERRONEOUS AND SO SHOULD BE CORRECTED? "you need to educate yourself further on this matter. You will find a wealth of solid information in our Helpful Resource Section to get you started. I HAVE SPENT MONTHS AND MONTHS HUNDREDS OF HOURS EXPLORING EVERY STUDY AND TRIAL, THE HPA AXIS AND ENDOCRINE SYSTEM AND STILL HAVE NOT STOPPED, THE INFO IN YOUR RESOURCE SECTION HAS NOTHING NEW TO ADD TO CONVERSATION SORRY. THE CURRENT MEDICATIONS ARE NOT WORKING FOR MANY MANY DOGS SO OWNERS NEED TO START THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX
IF YOU FEEL THAT MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH A CUSHINGS DOG AND THE THE NEW INFORMATION I BRING TO THE TABLE FOR OTHER MEMBERS TO EXPLORE AND RESEARCH IS A THREAT TO YOU THATS FINE
    BUT ....
    A. DONT QUESTION MY MOTIVES IN POSTING INFO ABOUT MEDS OR TRIALS OR MY OWN EXPERIENCE WITH A CUSHINGS DOG TO MOTIVATE MEMBERS TO STARTED RESEARCHING ON THEIR OWN

    AND

B REALIZE THAT YOU ARE DOING AN ENORMOUS DISSERVICE TO MEMBERS WHO HAVE LISTENED TO YOU, READ YOUR HELPFUL RESOURCE GUIDE AND TRIED ALL CONVENTIONAL TREATMENTS AND NEED SOMETHING NEW BECAUSE NOTHING IS WORKING AND THEIR DOGS ARE SICK WHY ARE YOU SO THREATENED BY SOMEONE WHO INJECTS NEW THOUGHTS, EXPERIENCES AND IDEAS INTO THE MIX? THE WHOLE IDEA IS TO GET PEOPLE TO START RESEARCHING ON THEIR OWN, THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX DONT JUST GIVE UP WHEN THEIR VET SAYS THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO THEIR DOG”

Are you actually threatening BRAT? Is that what this is? In writing? On a public forum?

  • @westcoastflea1 said in Brat Rescue and Transport; How they really treat rescues:

Brat has no proof of ownership. until they provide it they have no rights to any dog they claim is theirs.

Yes, they do. They have years of records proving that they have been providing medical care and food for Declan.

Heather, I urge you... chill with the hostility and take time to think about how you are reacting. Try to look at this objectively. I know it's hard, but one day... you will look back on this and regret your actions.

  • @elbrant “Yes, they do. They have years of records proving that they have been providing medical care and food for Declan.”

Along with their ownership documents, pictures of the dog and the signed foster contract.

  • Hi Heather, I see you haven’t replied to the last several posts, and in particular my question. I think a lot of people who have been reading this thread are now invested in and hoping for a happy outcome for Declan. Any updates would be appreciated. I’m wondering what’s happened the last 24 or so hours and why you haven’t replied to anyone? Thanks.

If he gets along with other breeds of dogs, perhaps taking him to doggy day care or a dog park would help. I would definitely ask Brenda about this first. Some Bs do not get along with small white fluffy dogs as they think they are prey! Jennifer

@DebraDownSouth: By original, do you mean the breeders or are they the ones who turned her over to rescue? Glad she is in a loving home! Debra, it is Lolly's original owner who was concerned for her, for some reason she had to give her up, the second owner put her with the dogs trust instead of giving her back. Lolly came originaly from a petshop  I have now on request from Lolly's new owner been able to put them in touch with each other so that information can be shared. Lolly seems as if she's got a super new home.

Nicely done. And I totally agree - those that work on behalf of BRAT are angels in my mind.

Cody will actually eat lettuce and will often beg the leftover from my salad. He snarfs down the lettuce carrot peas or whatever else is leftover. Totally freaked out my friend who was keeping him while I was away b/c she was eating a salad and he was begging. When she gave him a piece of lettuce he ate it and begged for more. She actually called me on my cell to make sure it was ok. :) He prefers ranch dressing. Thank you very much!

Last week I tried this frozen treat idea with my 4 and they loved it. Tools: Ziploc Bag. Water. Goodies. (For medium to large dogs) Take a ziplock bag, toss in a few goodies such as 2 baby carrots, small pieces of some pupperoni, a couple table spoons of wet dog food, a few kibbles of dry dog food or other treats that they like. (Just a dab will do ya) Then add in some water. You can also add a little bit of Tang or Crystal Light sometimes. To keep variety some days fill it with a lot of water (make a big block) some days just add a cup or two. When you fill 1/2 a bag or less you can place it different ways in the freezer so it makes different shapes once it freezes. This should be ice they have to get through to get the treats, not just a bag of frozen treats. You can also toss in a Nylabone or other toys that can handle being frozen. You can also use a cheap plastic food dish and place a toy or treats in there and freeze. Takes longer for them to get the goodies out since the bowl blocks access to all the sides. For smaller dogs just add less treats and water. For small animals use an ice cube tray and toss in a treat or two per cube. Don't forget just tossing some ice in the water bowl is also entertaining! This can get messy so please be aware of the fact that ice melts if you have carpets. This is better for floors you can clean easily or outdoors.

I too am a proud owner of a rescue basenji! I stumbled across his picture on petfinder one day and said to my boyfriend Brian there is a basenji at Pet Orphans (all breed rescue in Van Nuys)! So we went over for a visit and he looked a little ruff on the edges under weight, dull coat, a little dandruff, puppymill"ish looking and about two years old. I was a little apprehensive at first, Brian on the other hand feel in love the first second. He said to me I have had basenjis for years now and I know this one is special. We took the little guy home and the rescue was hassle free we didnt have to deal with twenty million questions or home checks it was great. I beleve there is a basenji lover working there because after I have noticed they have had a few other pure B's and cute B mixes. We knew we were in love with how cute he was but we never imagined how well behaved, sweet, and easy going this little dog turned out to be. From the B's that have been in the family, one from a pet store, two from breeders, and our rescue the rescue has been the best behaved, best temperment, and the most well rounded out of them all. Everyday He puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart. I love my rescue.
