BRAT Convention Brags

Basenji Talk

  • The BRAT convention was wonderful this year. Peggy and Corin were such great puppies. They were sociable and loved everyone.
Peggy let herself be passed around as so many people just wanted to hold her.
At the fun contests after the picnic, Peggy won "Most Wrinkles" and Corin won "Youngest Dog Attending" and "Best Tail Wagger"

I am so proud of them!

    -Nicole

  • They both represent the breed very well.
    Congratulation, Nicole! They were awesome.

  • How fun! I am so envious of all of you. Did you get to see the Wimauma pack and Pam?

Yep, we got to see them. The Wimauma update talk they gave was great.

  • JEALOUS! I am glad you had a great time and that the convention was a success, but I sure wish I could have been there!

  • Houston

How much fun…did you take any pictures?

  • I would love to have been there to see them. I hope those attending realise how privileged they are!

Cuddles to Peggy and Corin from me.

  • I wish I could have gone but I have 2 ill Bs at home.

    Jennifer

  • Jennifer, what is wrong with your Bs?

  • My one girl has Fanconi, gallbladder problems and possibly Cushings which she will be tested for. She was also just recovering from a UTI. My one boy has had lung/breathing problems with coughing off and on and heavy breathing/panting when it is hot. The coughing is odd because originally it was almost always in the evening and overnight. I never knew when it would stop and start up again. He started coughing in the morning last week for only two days and then the next day had funny breathing sounds and then it stopped. I took him to the vet this past Monday for a chest x-ray. His chest x-rays have been abnormal but this one was better. He has been tested for fungal issues and had a trach wash and all have been negative. I originally thought it was due to all the rain my area had this spring and the back yard having standing water at times. He is back on the Benadryl along with supplements. It was so hot that I did not want to take the dogs to Chicago but someone told me the temperature cooled off right when the convention started.

I did find out the house behind me had radon mitigation. It had been for sale and someone finally bought it. I thought it was still for sale and I drove by and saw the sign about the radon company. I have found very little information on dogs and radon.

    Jennifer

  • Jennifer I find a lot but all seems to be quoting one major study showing 21 percent of lab dogs exposed developed tumors

@helle-devi I notified BRAT shortly after "Heather" started the rant. I was concerned about several points (administering/adjusting med dosage without Vet approval/advice, ignoring Vet advice, and on and on). They called an emergency board meeting and took prompt action. Unfortunately, legal processes take time. All the while, Heather continued her rant. And more astonishing details were revealed. By the time Heather sent her first (wall of text itself) post, BRAT had already sent Heather an email explaining that they were reclaiming "Declan". Indicating that BRAT was already aware that things had gotten out of hand. I think Heather was a good "foster Mom" when she first started doing it. But something ... somewhere along the line ... started unraveling for her. I don't wish her any ill will. I do hope that she finds her way back. But I still think removing Declan from her home was "for the best". sigh (note: I do not know if Declan is still with her or not, Heather might have actually signed that agreement, but I doubt it.)

Just got home and had a GREAT TIME!!! Both litters were out for me to play with and they were adorable beyond belief and full of curiosity… looks like the red and white girl is going to be exported but I know that my second B next year will be a red and white, so I will live. Good news is that one of the two black and white boys took a real liking to me, wanting to be in my lap and being loved by me...even gave me lots of kisses, and the great thing is that he had a great medium level energy and the temperment I wanted! He will be 6 weeks on Tuesday so I am hoping his personality stays the same....and since it was obvious he liked me to the breeder maybe he will be my baby...There were also the two brindles that I like as well, o hell- I want them all (LOL). Sorry guys, I was too busy playing and talking that I didn't take any pictures but I go back in two weeks to see them again, I think that visit will be when I will find out who is mine, so pics then and then another couple weeks and he/she will be home with me!!!! WHOO HOO, such a great day Oh, p.s.- I was correct, the little red and white girl has the BIGGEST personality, she was the last to konk out from playing and jumped into the pigpile of sleeping puppies to bite them and tell them she wasn't tired! But she has the face of an angel so she can get away with it

That's great to hear all went well for you - sounds like you had a fantastic time! We don't have a dog park in my area either & I really hope we find one on our road trip this summer. About the hotel inspections - be careful with that - I'm usually up my female's rear end because I have little trust that her curiosity won't get her into trouble. The first time we stayed @ a "pet friendly" hotel, my B was able to find some random black debis on the chair, stuff under the beds & 2 prescription estrogen pills! I had just had her spayed, but she certainly didn't need all that!! ;)
