The crazy crab dance

Basenji Talk

  • I don't know what else to call it. When he wants to play he does this sorta, crab dance thing runs around in the house, like to say, come and chase me. I corner him (all in good fun) and he does the crab dance. What I wanted to know is if this is my Zaki being weird or do they all do that?

  • @slents
My basenji does the “crab dance” too! Nice description- exactly what it looks like! Must be a “basenji thing”!

  • Not sure if I've seen this or not. Can you post a video? Worst case we get to have some vicarious fun!

  • doodle does it for my son.... they have a created a race track for loops around the house! She won't do it for me though... I'm just the (food, walk, cuddles) servant. ;)

  • Great idea I will work on videos this weekend, wasn't sure I could post MP4s. Also, it is very interesting to me that Zaki has compartmentalized the things he does with each of the three of us, my wife, me, and my son.

Doing different things with different people is typical. I'd suspect that's how it works for most dogs ... and for most people.LOL Sort of the nature of social interaction.

If you can't post an MP4 file - never tried it - you can upload to YouTube and link assuming you have an account. That for sure will work.

  • My little Naomi did it with a head toss. She looked like a little bucking horse!

Now that Naomi is gone, Tess has taken it up. Major head toss.
In fact, she is doing it right now, as it is time to feed her!!

  • OH PLEASE post a video!!!! We all LOVE the things Basenjis come up with!!!!:red_heart:

All of mine are having a longer and larger shed right now than is usual. I think it because it has been unusually hot and humid for a longer time than normal.

Kona looked around at this video. Some of the other ones on YouTube really get her excited, this one was more curiosity than anything else. It is amazing how basenji's sound so different….Kona's noises are sometimes almost inaudible. For example, if we are talking to our neighbors outside and she is on the leash she will baroo to try and get them to play with her and 3/4 of the time they never hear her!! We hear her every time, but then again she is our baby! :)

Kiora loves fresh pumpkin! She usually only gets it twice a year on Halloween and Thanksgiving. It's a special treat for her. Miss Ananda thinks she is insane and would like to let it be known that she prefers to eat turkey on Thanksgiving. ;) I think it usually goes over o.k with their tummies since it is high in fiber. Kiora's stomach is made of steel, though. Once she ate an entire bar of 70% cacao chocolate and was not even a little sick, though I was sick with worry for about a day and a half.

Hi Quercus! Tano's breeder was Maripat Webber of Etukon. I believe both her siblings went on to be show dogs. Tano took after her mom as far as coloring…being the only red and white of the litter. ^_^ I'll push up Tano's appointment for her physical and request the full thyroid thing. If this is all related to thyroid I definitely want to get it looked into asap! Thank you for pointing out that it could all be related! She really develops a thick woolly undercoat in the fall/winter. You'd think the house wasn't near 70 degrees all winter! If her hair was a little longer I could possibly clean it up and felt with it--she sheds that much! :D
