  • Thank you!

Enya has grown.. :D She is not a little puppie anymore!

  • Glad to see you back Kim!… The kids look great! Enya has really grown up!

  • Glad to see you back on the Forum. Sounds like your life has been very exciting and busy lately. The dogs all look wonderful - Enya is no puppy any more! How are they adjusting to the new ship?

  • Glad to see you back :)

  • Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! :)

The dogs, cats and Ryan adjust very well! Easier than we expect actually!
We guided them before the moving by buying their new things (new house new stuff :) ) already so that they could get used to it at our old home.
At the new home, we took them with us every half day so they could see the place started to look like a home but also have their rest at their "old" home. Ryan went with us the first days to work in his room and then went to my parents so we could work at the rest of the house.
They could relax from the first moment, better than we adjusted haha

I will post some pictures from the movement!

  • Our new home!

Living room (we still are searching for nice and calm green paintings and already added some deco)

    Kitchen

    Our bedroom

The africa room, it's my working room (to write, paint and draw) and the doggies room with their own crates.

    Bathroom

Ryans room with handprints from me, Kas, Ryan, my parents (Ryan's grandparents) and our sailor boy thomas (Ryans best friend :) )
We wanted (well Ryan wanted) footprints of the doggies too but we tryed Buana's foot and it was really too stressfull to paint their paws, and stick them to the wall..

  • Wonderful to have you back, Kim. The new boat looks really nice, love your kitchen. Ryan's room is darling! Pups look great too.

  • Always lovely to see new pictures from you! Ryan is growing up quickly, along with your pups! The new home looks really comfortable.

  • Good to hear from you again, Kim, and thank you for the pictures. I must admit when I was in Holland for a few days I particularly noted the container ships with their living quarters (and cars on top) and thought of you all and your life. i think that you will be great working with dogs you have done so well with your own family (human, doggy and cats).

  • Thank you all so much :)

I missed the forum but also missed the time :)

Patty, you were very welcome to visit us when you were in holland!

@abonnard Pee pads got me through in the end, she would pee every 20 mins for the first months, then 40 mins, then she suddenly went to being able to hold it for many hours. One of the best purchases I got before she arrived was a small carpet washer, saved my sanity. The cleanup is so key otherwise they go back to the same spot.

Welcome aboard, but do share his registered name ? Who are Dad and Mom and what was his date of birth so we can be sure to add him to the Basenji pedigree on-line database (with a photo ???) for the world to share him. http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/

@msjames, @tanza did you a solid favor outlining expectations. Networking really is key to finding a "reputable" breeder. Most show their dogs and are connected to other breeders through showing. They all seem to know who is planning a litter and who isn't. I completely agree with Pat that you should meet your breeder in person prior to the puppies even being born. You can learn a lot. Is a Basenji right for you? If you want a dog to hang with you in the driveway with the garage door open as you chat with neighbors, or stand calmly with the front door open as you receive a UPS package... ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Basenjis will bolt. they'll be gone in a second. They see it. They chase it. And if you think you have them trained... no. They've trained you. When they see it they will chase it. Basenjis, in my experience, need exercise. Mine get two walks a day. When they don't, they can be destructive. They're not shy about expressing frustration or displeasure through chewing up your best stuff. A big secure yard can mitigate this, but that's not a guarantee. They love seeing outside, so keep your blinds and drapes open otherwise they may open them themselves even if that requires chewing through them. They will climb onto windowsills, tables and low counter tops. They are capable of scaling a six-foot fence. They are known to climb trees. These are extreme examples, but better to know now. They are super affectionate. They can be trained... to a point. They are clowns and provide endless entertainment. A Basenji baroo is the best sound ever! They love to snuggle and will sleep on your bed and under the spreads and sheets if you let them. They love to share body heat. Tail twitches when I return home are the best!

@basenjilovers - She is very cute, please make sure that DNA testing was done for Fanconi and PRA. And if not or you are not sure, you can get the test kits at www.ofa.org. You do the test as it is a cheek swab.

Thank you for saying these wonderful things about the mature Bs. My Black Magic lived to 171/2 and only started going down the last 6 months of her life. There is plenty of love in the B's without so much of the puppitis that infects them until age 5 or 6! Cherry just wants to do what is best for these 4. So thank you for the words and send anyone searching to us to get them connected. God Bless, Dawn

I am a new and somewhat infrequent member but when I first joined, my elderly Basenji girl just started having seizures. I had moved to East of Nowhere and had no one to turn to and I am now SO LOYAL to this group and all the support and advice they gave me as a result. The good news is that Zeenie is doing well and her condition is under control: she is able to continue bossing her 3 other pack-mates as a result. I just kept searching for the right answer, very encouraged by the group I met online here. Thank you to everyone who assisted us. XOXO, Lauma and Zeenie PS: My brother Shaman is a new member of this forum (he just adopted Henry two weeks ago) and the boys are getting along well… Thank you for your support of them also!
