  • Hello!

I haven't been around here for too long, so I wanted to introduce myself again to the people that dont know me yet, or my Basenji's :)

I am Kim, 27 years old and originally from Holland but sailing at a big ship from Rotterdam (NL) to Antwerpen (B) tansporting containers.
It has been a hectic time because we are just moved into our new ship.
Since three weeks we are living and working at our new ship but we are busy with it since February!

We are owned by three basenji's Buana (red and white, 6 years old), Chafuko (brindle 4 years old) and Enya (red and white, 8 months old)
And not to forget our son Ryan (2009) birdy Kip, black cat Spaiky(2004) and bengal boy James. (2010)
Since Juni 2011 we have our kennelname Kwa Banduru's (Swahili for "From the good ship")

Buana and Chafuko, our boys are coming from Holland (Toka Kilima) and Enya is coming from Sweden (Yulara)
Enya is half Africal and all of them are very very sweet and naughty :)

I am working on a few new study's so we can stop sailing in about 2 years and g and work with animals (finally… :))
I do have a diploma for vets assistant but our heart lies with behavior and energetic health (reiki) so we are busy with some new extra study's.

At the beginning of August we will be hearing if we are going to be guest family for mistreated/ neglectic dogs to guide them untill they are healthy and happy enough to move to their forever home :)
It is a little start and a big dream we already can fullfill while sailing :)

Hopefully I will be able to keep up with the forum again and see all your beautifull Basenji's

    This is our pack:

  • Welcome back! I've missed your beautiful pics of your family. And my, how baby girl has grown.

  • Thank you!

Enya has grown.. :D She is not a little puppie anymore!

  • Glad to see you back Kim!… The kids look great! Enya has really grown up!

  • Glad to see you back on the Forum. Sounds like your life has been very exciting and busy lately. The dogs all look wonderful - Enya is no puppy any more! How are they adjusting to the new ship?

  • Glad to see you back :)

  • Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! :)

The dogs, cats and Ryan adjust very well! Easier than we expect actually!
We guided them before the moving by buying their new things (new house new stuff :) ) already so that they could get used to it at our old home.
At the new home, we took them with us every half day so they could see the place started to look like a home but also have their rest at their "old" home. Ryan went with us the first days to work in his room and then went to my parents so we could work at the rest of the house.
They could relax from the first moment, better than we adjusted haha

I will post some pictures from the movement!

  • Our new home!

Living room (we still are searching for nice and calm green paintings and already added some deco)

    Kitchen

    Our bedroom

The africa room, it's my working room (to write, paint and draw) and the doggies room with their own crates.

    Bathroom

Ryans room with handprints from me, Kas, Ryan, my parents (Ryan's grandparents) and our sailor boy thomas (Ryans best friend :) )
We wanted (well Ryan wanted) footprints of the doggies too but we tryed Buana's foot and it was really too stressfull to paint their paws, and stick them to the wall..

  • Wonderful to have you back, Kim. The new boat looks really nice, love your kitchen. Ryan's room is darling! Pups look great too.

  • Always lovely to see new pictures from you! Ryan is growing up quickly, along with your pups! The new home looks really comfortable.

  • Good to hear from you again, Kim, and thank you for the pictures. I must admit when I was in Holland for a few days I particularly noted the container ships with their living quarters (and cars on top) and thought of you all and your life. i think that you will be great working with dogs you have done so well with your own family (human, doggy and cats).

  • Thank you all so much :)

I missed the forum but also missed the time :)

Patty, you were very welcome to visit us when you were in holland!

@Motala - That is good that you talked to Jan and glad to hear that she had not been spayed. I still think that your Vet and you should connect with Dr. Gonto about your girl's blood work and blood gas results and if he has any thoughts about it.

Welcome aboard, but do share his registered name ? Who are Dad and Mom and what was his date of birth so we can be sure to add him to the Basenji pedigree on-line database (with a photo ???) for the world to share him. http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/

Thank you for saying these wonderful things about the mature Bs. My Black Magic lived to 171/2 and only started going down the last 6 months of her life. There is plenty of love in the B's without so much of the puppitis that infects them until age 5 or 6! Cherry just wants to do what is best for these 4. So thank you for the words and send anyone searching to us to get them connected. God Bless, Dawn

I am a new and somewhat infrequent member but when I first joined, my elderly Basenji girl just started having seizures. I had moved to East of Nowhere and had no one to turn to and I am now SO LOYAL to this group and all the support and advice they gave me as a result. The good news is that Zeenie is doing well and her condition is under control: she is able to continue bossing her 3 other pack-mates as a result. I just kept searching for the right answer, very encouraged by the group I met online here. Thank you to everyone who assisted us. XOXO, Lauma and Zeenie PS: My brother Shaman is a new member of this forum (he just adopted Henry two weeks ago) and the boys are getting along well… Thank you for your support of them also!
