  • basenji and chi?

Rocky…. you are darn cute. :)

  • That is what we think he is also.. He is 16 pounds, longer legs than chis, and runs like the wind..lol
Thank you, we think he is an adorable little boy.

  • Very, very cute! Could be Chi/Basenji or Toy Fox Terrier/Chi…. or Rat Terrier x chi either way too cute and welcome

  • Welcome to the forum Rocky! I too see Chi/B. Curly tail, all white feet and white tail. Lookin good Rocky!

  • So cute <3

  • Thank you all for the sweet comments about our boy.. He is an extremely interesting little guy..lol Never a dull moment with Rocky around! I have been reading alot on this site, and find he does have many of the characteristics of the basenji breed.. so perhaps that is a part of his heritage.

  • Hey Chideb! Haven't seen you in a while. Rocky is beautiful. I think I have a chi/basenji mix, too. He has a lot of the traits but not all of them, so I am not 100% sure.

  • He looks a great guy.

Hey Pam.. small world, huh?? It is great to see you again, I often think you of and your wonderful pack..I have always admired your dedication to chi rescue. I hope Babushka is doing well, such a sweetheart that little one.
I am basically a "lurker" on our other forum these days, don't post very often. I just couldn't handle all of the acidic comments and egos any longer..lol It was no longer a site for the wonder of the dogs, but a place where people were constantly trying to "one up" each other. I regret not being able to participate after being there for 4 years, but everyone has to draw their line in the sand at some point.
    Blessings, Deb

Yeah, I know what you mean. It has gotten better, a lot of the snarky ones left and we got a load of new people that are quite nice. Babushka is such a sweet, crazy puppy, I am so in love with her. How long have you had Rocky? He is a cutie.

  • Pam, Have had Rocky since he was a baby.. Here are a couple of baby pics of him.. he was adorable and full of mischief!

  • What a cute tri head! Does he bark much?

  • Hope you guys don't get tired of looking at pics of possible Basenji mixes! This is Rio and I have tried to narrow his breed type to Basenji - Toy Fox/Rat Terrier - Chi - and Shephard. I keep seeing more Basenji than anything else but tell me otherwise! Thanks for your input!!!

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

@kembe You are so lucky to have such a gorgeous dog! I have had many dogs throughout my life and each lived for a long time. Having said that, the Bs are my favorite! Mine did not Yodel until a year before she died, but she did Baroo all the time. They are absolutely fascinating and worth every single second that you have one. House destruction can be managed and one must understand the concept of Separation Anxiety. That was a small challenge for me because I brought my Puppy everywhere including on the Train into NYC. She was an excellent traveler and fell asleep in her crate when we were driving. She was so well behaved she slept in my Office when I went to Court. :)

I agree with the others that although he seems to have Basenji in him - his head is def. not Basenji. As for the leg I'd have it amputated if it troubles him - He'll cope with 3 legs I'm sure, but certainly consult a specialist first. Please keep us updated.

We got Killian from a breeder in Ohio–-Jim Edgerton. That's where he had gotten our previous male basenji. We took Logan and Jasmine to his place and looked at several 1 year olds and a puppies and Jasmine eliminated the others and we agreed with her pick.

Thank you very much for the info. I will have to try the time out. He was crate trained as far as being house broken, but now when I put brownie in the crate all he does is whine.. I do have 2 older dogs. one that plays with him and the other, well he just growls at brownie. The mother that was there when I got Brownie was a white shepard, maybe that is where the broad nose comes in.
