I just weighed Otis, and this is after he ate breakfast..he now weighs 23.8lbs, and is looking trimmer for sure. His ribs are definitely right under the surface now, as supposed to a little squishy..the no-bacon, no-butter, no-cinnamon roll diet worked..He did however, with some help from our dachshund, Gus, get a hold of one of our roosters, Elmer, and hurt him bad..we had to put poor Elmer down. Now we have reinforced the fence, on the chicken side, so they can't get over and be a treat for the dogs..Boy was he remorseful after that ordeal..or at least that is how he came across. Thanks all for helping me with your inputs, much appreciated..

just want to be smart mouths, and I think they are just jealous. Everyone that I have told that my dog doesn't bark replies,"Now that is what I need, it must be nice".

I stayed in a neighbourhood with plenty of dogs. My Bs are anti dogs. They are prone to aggressive behaviour because they want to be the Queen Bitches. I thought they were just anti JRT and Big dogs. Now it seems they are anti everybody….sigh......

Me too. We had a Siberian Husky mix growing up in NJ and she always sang with the noon or the fire whistle. I hope you hear the sweet sounds of Cooper singing soon…

Good for the Gecko. Here in Texas we say it brings good luck to have geckos in our homes. So good luck is coming your way.

Well the clever hoomans managed to keep Vanda inside over the last 24 hours :D. Nemo, that is exactly what went through my mind, and let me tell you, it scares the $*(^ out of me :D. I think this little lady will be keeping us on our toes a lot more than Ochre and Saba do :p. We were prewarned by her breeder, so I guess I will have to do extra checks on Vanda alone… wizard, I was thinking exactly that same thought while I was typing, the stiff drink I mean ;)

Hello! I wish to comment on my dog Pearl. She is Very quiet, hardly a sound. I try to encourage her to speak. She does a lot of nonverbal communication. About the child issue. Pearl came to us as a puppy. My kids (12 & 13 at the time) spent time with her, the neighbor kids played with her, and she loves kids. No problems socializing with young people. I guess the point is, your pup will love anyone who treats it well and cares for it. At 5 , I'm sure your child understands the importance of being gentle with dogs. Pearl has done her fair share of chewing. Interesting what she likes. She will be 2 in October, and is better, but she has lots of bones! I love Pearl, however, I am easy going, and enjoy taking her on walks, playing with her, and having her as a family member. Its up to you what you want from a dog. Pearl is pretty free, and thats what I like!

She is still a beautiful dog, but I really don't know much about the weight thing. I just wanted to tell you she is great and I think I would love to hug her! Sorry, just love dogs!

To all of you that knew her, condolences sent your way on her passing. It sounds as if she has left you all a wonderful legacy. Hugs and prayers from the States, and blessings to her family. Soulmate, IMHO the rainbow bridge thread would have been a fine tribute for her. I plan to meet all my 'family' there when my time comes. 2 and 4-leggers.

The preparation doesn't hurt that's for sure. The kids can learn the responsibilities of dog ownership. You just don't want the Basenji to be a novelty that wears off.
