Debra :) thank you for positive thoughts :) And yes here in canada all we get are federal loans and provincial loans , it still only covered the cost of my tuition which is something And we did sell the car to help with a few things , and here in canada people either go back to there country or apply from within the country but they must always have a valid status , visitor visa , work permit , student etc .. :) if we're lucky by September we will have some news from Canada immigration :) that he is eligible for a open work permit :) My dad is doing better now , he went in for a check up with the specialist and yes the tumor was cancerous so he will have to go back in 3 months again to get checked out , and etc so keep track of things :) I can't wait to finish school and get a job - and even start back again with horses -ha probably end up taking a a equine sciences diploma program online afterwards , And yes I worked at the track some things they do are horrible , others are great and take amazing care of them it's a hit and miss !

@eeeefarm: Until fairly recently, dogs managed just fine on table scraps. (still do in many places). Commercial dog food began as a way to salvage some use out of what humans don't consider fit for the table. Put a fancy label on it, and sell it to people who had essentially been feeding the dog the same thing for free. Now the pet food companies have convinced people that you have to balance everything "just so" or it is detrimental to your dog's health. Funny how they survived for so long without such assistance! And the claim that dogs now live longer just doesn't wash. More and more ailments are showing up that used to be unheard of, and I certainly knew dogs when I was growing up that lived well into their teens on table scraps. well said-processed foods do us all harm in time…..

I have gotten in the habit to wash Kaisers feet after every walk since his skin problems which also helps to pick up on anything he may have walked on like glass, weed spray etc but you just don't think about a street grate, so sad for the dog and what a terrible thing to witness for the owner. Ah, Russia…winning the hearts of citizens all over the globe. Their motto is 'if you're too small to have a voice, you don't legally have one'. Their policies know no limits of inhumanity. I think one of the sickest things I've heard was when Putin cut off child adoptions to the U.S. as a political snub...but was swayed to open up the disabled adoption pool "because Westerners were the only ones willing to adopt them." At least kids with birth defects were able to get the help they needed, because Russia considered them too inferior and costly to hold onto. Birth defects primarily caused by the alcohol and drug abuse that isn't remotely being addressed. That country is like one giant Florida. Sorry about that....no Team Russia for me, thanks. Not going to support them by watching the Olympics this year.

Wow , so fast, their back half of their body can hardly get up with their front. I didn't realise they moved so fast, you can see the dogs love doing it. Jolanda and Kaiser

LOL– anything is teethworthy from the Basenji perspective! Just like you buy them a basket full of toys and their favorite is the empty spaghetti box "found" in the trash.

I know how you feel. It's horrible to live close to animal neglect. My new next-door neighbors leave their two dogs out 24/7– heat, rain, snow, lightning storm. They have a big fenced yard, but almost no shade. Of course, the dogs bark non-stop. There's no talking to people like that-- I've already been told to mind my own business. Maybe your neighbor will take you up on your offer... but probably not. It's sad.

I've been lurking too, not much to say but fun reading and seeing pics. Also might be that now the weather is getting nicer, we are all out more with the B's, spending more time walking or going to dog parks - I know we spend longer at the parks than we do when the weather is yucky. Soon it will be rainy lots of the time, and we'll be on more.

Amtrak is pretty strict about it. There was a petition going around during the holidays, trying to persuade Amtrak to allow pets. It may still be active. Good luck!

Very cute! And I'm sure your husband will appreciate that he got you a gift you love ;) Etsy is always fun to browse. I ended up getting my wedding cake topper through there. Just did a general search for Basenji, found a shirt I should buy and wear when I take Loki out with me. Then random people can know what he is without needing to ask!

If you are in the evacuation areas, please remember to bring the vaccine records for your animals and medication(s). If you would have to put your animals in one of the evaucation shelters for animals, the shelter will probably revaccinate your animals if you do not have proof! Jennifer

Some of the small bags of dog food I have seen here in the U.S.-Ohio is that expensive. One pet store near me never had the smaller bags on sale only the larger bags but I could not buy the larger bags since only one of my dogs would be eating it. I started buying the food at a health food store where it almost always have the smaller bags on sale. The price of dog food has really gone up within the last couple of years. Jennifer
