All my dogs are protected by homeopathic nosodes for Parvo and although it is a most horrible infection I do also know that the homeopathy offers the best chance of a cure. Dogs conventionally vaccinated against Parvo have been known to contract it but I wouldn't panic about this outbreak yet. It could be that these are unvaccinated dogs. I'll contact Irene in case she would like to make the homeopathic treatment known and also to find out if she has founf out anything more about these cases.

Just as a note, we had a Carrier bred to a Clear which produced 8 puppies. The testing on the puppies found 1 Carrier, 1 Clear, and 6 Indeterminate. According to Jon Curby, the rate up til now has been about 5% Indeterminates - but this breeding produced 75%! As Kathy said, the statistics are for individual puppies, not for entire litters… Terry

It's not unknown for us every now and then! Both are very well this morning which is great news.

Job wise, so far so good. We won't have a final notice until the week of the 5th. Fingers crossed they don't eliminate my position, although with 14 year under my belt I have enough seniority to bump someone else. I'd hate to do it but all districts are 'pinking'. There will be no openings in Illinois. Plus my district won't pay out accumulated sick days so I'd be giving up almost a year of retirement in sick pay alone. Fingers crossed. In the mean time, I'm enjoying my spring break, catching up on some reading, and watching my 2 beasts nap the day away on the sofa:). Looks good!! I might just join them:D.

I just talked to one of the geneticists working with this group yesterday at the ACoD. They are also looking for bitches who had mammary tumors. If I understood correctly they may also consider other cancer types if they can get 60 dogs of the same breed with the same type of cancer.

I would suggest putting some A&D Ointment on it. Medjai had a problem with a rash type thing between his legs for over a year before I tried A&D and now it's gone. I've had him on good food, and tried different things from the vet and nothing worked until now.

I've only just read this post as I was away for a few days. I couldn't agree more with Tanza about substantial and bladed bone. The UK standard calls for fine bone which is interpreted by some to mean 'weedy'. As Tanza says it is not all black and white. After all the term 'fine' is open to individual interpretation. I had a look on your website Tanza and agree that Maggii is very feminine and has good bone.

Also what kind of filter are you using? We use the allergen filters by 3M and they do make a difference for husband who has had allergies all his life.

One thing that came to my mind: At our vet clinic we sell Science Diet. They have a sensitive skin formula. I find all of their foods to be made in mind of the animals needs and it is highly recommended by our veterinarians. Although it might be more costly.. @khanis: I have NEVER heard of these legendary fleas or mosquitos…. and I am a Portland native... and have NEVER had a flea issue with my basenjis [Whippet, IG, RR, Newfs, or cats]. Our home ranges from 3-6 basenjis on average and still no problem, even with dogs that come/go for showing or boarding. The only time I have treated them [my dogs] was prior to traveling to the midwest or east coasts. During the time I lived in Portland, which is at the very northern end of the Valley and has more wind than the lower Valley, I noticed a lot fewer fleas and 'skeeters. I can understand why you haven't experienced them. Try camping on the shores of Fern Ridge sometime. Make sure you take lots of DEET. I grew up there and, man, the 'skeeters are horrible!:eek: I can remember our dogs and cats had a rough time of it, too. We were always picking fleas off them. But that's the difference between living in the city and living in the back woods. The conditions in the lower Valley are perfect for the growth of fleas and mosquitos: standing water everywhere and very few hard freezes. (Gramma lives in the "sticks" too and has lots of both in her area outside Salem.) But, again, back to the subject, she used Brewer's Yeast and had pretty good results with it.

The recall includes three-pound packages of chicken medallions, six-pound packages of chicken patties and two-pound packages of chicken chubs. Initially, the company recalled only packages with a best-by date of Nov. 10, 2010. Now packages with best-by dates of Oct. 29 and Nov. 9, 2010, are also being recalled. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Pets can also become ill if they consume the bacteria. I'm glad to know that both bags I used last had dates in December/2011. Hopefully they get this issue under control.
