Thank you for all your replies. I truely appreciate learning so much about everyone on this board. Unfortunately, I don't know what the parents of my pup is due to being a rescue dog. He was found in a garbage bin, then a shelter, then a rescue, then in my life!

So Buddy's urinalysis showed he is on the too acidic side contributing to the calcium oxalate crystals in his urine. I got these test strips to see if his diet change is making his urine more alkaline. They work pretty good and it only takes a minute to see the result. It comes with a color chart to compare the strip to. My last Basenjis had their urine too alkaline which resulted in bladder infections. I got this on Amazon.

It's getting a little more alkaline as I reduce the protein and continue to add water to his meals. I'm going to drop off a urine sample this weekend to see if there's crystals still in his urine.
