RE: Screaming must stop!

@tanza Vets seem to vary over here in the advice they give. Some insist on not leaving the premises until the final jab - but of how many - two or these days it seems to be three ?
My vet says a couple of days after the 2nd jab is OK but some of Kito's siblings have been told to wait for the third. Others say ok after the first.
Personally, I think its OK to be careful after they have some protection and would agree with @tanza. No dog parks or heavily frequented areas, no sniffing dog's poo - somewhere quiet where the pup and you can relax.
As for socialising - I have an excellent sling and mine have gone out with the older dogs, carried around my shoulders and not touching the ground but meeting all kinds of strange looking critturs including horses !
Been using a sling which has been great.. brought him to a bunch of places in it already.
Finding a area people don't frequent in LA? Ha.. I did let him out to eliminate on a hike in areas "off the path" which I felt were acceptable.
Anyways, he gets his last jab in a week. I've been careful so far so I can wait the extra 7 days to start walking him properly.
@tanza My vet strongly advised to wait til the 3rd jab so I'm erring on the side of caution. LA is just too heavily trafficked and everyone seems to have a dog these days.

RE: Looking for Male Basenji
Thanks @tanza thanks for all of that info. I was actually able to find a breeder recommended by the Basenji Club of America that has puppies available. Chatting with the breeder tomorrow. Hoping the interview goes well, don't see why it shouldn't!

I have a 9 month old who wanted to follow us everywhere at first. It was a lot easier once she was old enough to safely climb the stairs.
As she has matured we are finding that she often chooses to stay in the other room or in her (open) crate as long as the door isn't closed and she can come and find us if she needs us.
Looking back it was quite a short space of time that she had this intense need, but it was hard not knowing when it would end. Letting go and allowing her to follow us made it a lot less stressful.
Interesting.. my B seems to go for anything and everything. The couch, walls, tv console (lol), etc. I can't imagine ever being able to leave him alone anywhere.
Right now I believe a big reason why he can be destructive is I can't exercise him properly since he isn't fully vaccinated. Very excited for that day (9 days~) so I can get this little dude a proper workout.

Looking for Male Basenji
Hey there everyone,
Looking for a male basenji puppy. I'm located in Southern California but willing to travel as needed to pick up my new friend.
I've reached out to several breeders but no hits so far on getting on a list for 2021 or finding existing available pups, so I figured posting here seemed like a good idea
Thanks so much,
Charlie

RE: Puppy dry heaving?
@tanza Nothing showed up in the x-rays - they gave me some nausea medicine to see if it helps so we'll see.

@yahtzee92 - How old? And yes they do have a good sense of smell and hearing... my one boy would dig at the dishwasher... and sure enough, we did have mice....
He is 14 weeks old now.
This place was treated for roaches (noticed a couple small ones but had them come).. perhaps he is sensing there are more....

RE: Puppy dry heaving?
@elbrant Definitely a positive! But, on the flip side, doesn't help explain what's going with him : / Its happening right as he wakes up in the morning (at its worst) then continues only a couple of times throughout the day. May go get a second opinion at a different vet.

RE: Looking for Male Basenji
Thanks @tanza , noted. I used that questionnaire while chatting with the breeder just now and everything seemed sound. Looks like I should be welcoming a new basenji into my home within the next couple of months.
Thanks everyone for your help here, its all been very much appreciated

RE: Puppy dry heaving?
@tanza It really was just exactly as described - trying to throw up with nothing coming up. Thankfully it seems to have cleared up! And he handled last nights fireworks quite well which I'm very grateful for

Replying late but our B had this problem for quite a while. It's called bilious vomiting syndrome. Usually the vomit is yellow foam in the morning when they have an empty stomach. Our vet suggested feeding 3 meals through the day with the last meal as late in the evening as possible and then the moment they wake up, feed them right away, even just a spoonful is good. Our B had this issue on and off for a good 4 months before it eventually going away, the feeding very first thing in the morning seemed to help. She's 9 months now and it still happens occassionally, the last time was when we forgot to feed her dinner the night before. She's otherwise totally healthy.
Sadly this was a totally different issue at the time. It was dry and repetitive even post-feeding. Ended up being nothing which is odd but he's all good now

@yahtzee92 Could be that there is a bitch in heat somewhere in your neighborhood. In other words nature is screaming at his nose. Could also be that heβs becoming bored in the house. Maybe a few new toys that make him use his brain to keep him busy. Thatβs about all I can think ofβ¦
Thanks for the reply. I got him a fun new bear that he goes insane over so that's a good shout. Still, not quite enough !! Ha. Perhaps I'll get another fun little something for him. I'm interested to see how his demeanor changes after a full day with other dogs.
