Hello Chlloe, I think the thing I learned most from our basenji (s) is patience. Sometimes you just have to out wait them. Miles is now 4 and the time now he lays down and stalks the other dogs has shortened up. Good comments from others here too.

RE: Meet Millie!
She is so adorable! Thank you for sharing. I will defer to crate experts on this one.
For some reason Miles loves his crate, maybe he remembers getting good treats inside the crate as a puppy. Millie is so cute! ariadne -
RE: Anti-anxiety medication for separation anxiety. 14 month male B.
Interesting research on music as a calming effect? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0031938416306977
Our Basenji Paladin could not be left alone, we tried everything, one thing sort of worked rescue remedy and touch tell massage. We had many pet sitters. Our new Basenji is so carefree and problem free it's a miracle. Miles is Basenji # 5 so maybe we just learned from all the others....

RE: Rabies Vaccine reaction
@kembe The vet said it was most likely a reaction. It healed up finally after 1 month! There was swelling and a scab at the injection site. I used coconut oil on top of it and it seemed to help heal it and then the scab fell off. None of our other basenji's had any type of reaction to the rabies vaccine. I am just glad it healed up. Thanks for checking in.

RE: Positivity?
-They yodel when they are happy, it's truly a sign of our joy!
-They don't like the rain and will bury themselves in bed covers or hide as they refuse to go outside. They will dance around and run around to distract you from putting on the leash. We lived in Portland when it rained so much but he still didn't change his mind : )
-They love to be warm. Ours sleeps in his own bed but in the middle of the night will come and paw my head so I wake up and place his blanket over him so he is completely buried. I don't like being awakened but it's a charming trait and I don't like the cold either!
-They will get you in shape. They love to walk and run. And you know that a tired basenji is a good basenji. And since they are sight hounds they know when there is another dog or animal nearby. Last week he stopped in this tracks and just ahead 3 coyotes ran down the road. They will check out the sky for airplanes and birds. They see the world sometimes you don't see.Good Luck! You have a forever friend!

How to Find a Lost Dog (not my basenji)
Hello Basenji Forum Friends,
Does anyone have any tips on finding a lost dog? My now new friend Paul lost his 10 month old pup (not a basenji but a dingo mix with similar traits- likes to bolt etc.) he slipped out of his harness. More info here, https://www.pawboost.com/landing/pet/X_dA3LT_KTQ_CQxN0ib3SgyCXnORaYz5/lost-dude-cupertino-ca-95014
I thought what would I do and reached out to help and have been posting flyers everywhere. Does anyone have any tips on finding a lost dog? Or how to hire a reputable dog tracker in the Bay Area? Thank you! Paul is a researcher at Genentech and also a pilot for Pilots & Paws that provides free flights to rescue dogs that have a new home! Thank you!

Vet Visit for Exam and Boosters and Anxiety
Hello Basenji owners.
My dog Miles, a 7 year old basenji needs to see the vet and post-covid he doesn't like it.
The vet suggested giving him trazadone and gabapentin before his appointment to calm him down.
Has anyone tried this before?Thank you,

Thank you for the great advice! Pat we know Anne with Toby and Carly and see them often on our walks in our neighborhood! I asked her if she knew Tanza and that's when she shared the great news you are her breeder!

Natural Remedies for UTIs
Has anyone used Pet Well Being Urinary Gold for UTI's?
Information here, https://petwellbeing.com/products/urinary-gold-for-canine-urinary-tract-health?variant=33947592163459I have changed my basenji's diet from dehydrated Stella & Chewy's to Fromm (thank you Tanza for the recommendation). Our vet wants to prescribe antibiotics and suggests neutering our 5 year old male that we don't plan on ever breeding. Thank you for the advice. On line this alternative gets good reviews, anyone use it on this forum?
Thank you!

RE: How to Find a Lost Dog (not my basenji)
Hello to all, thank you for the suggestions and responses. Sadly, yesterday the pup Dude was hit by car and did not survive. I can't imagine the pain the owner is going through right now. I learned a lot on how to find a lost dog from dog expert Susan Packer from the Bay Area and will share more soon. Sadly, he was not found in time despite the owner camping out in their car for over a week at the last locations he was spotted. I replied to help and learned so much about how kind people can be-- just like this group so willing to help! Cheers, Dude lives on with lasting memories of his short life! )
