I think I need a tranquilizer…

  • I'm curious as to what you think you're going to do with the dog beds. Don't you know basenjis sleep in what will soon used to be known as your bed. Are you sure you've researched the breed at all?

Here's a link to some puppy things:

I had this book when I got Zest:

it's been a while since i read it, but seems like i liked it (actually i ended up getting 2 copies)

Oh, and a good camera. i didn't see that on your list

  • Kipawa- It isn't the same as the snuggle puppy but places like Petco supply a product called Petstages Puppy Cuddle Pal, I don't know if any place near you would carry such an item but it has the heat element that the Snuggle puppy does but not the heartbeat. Just a thought since it was brought up. I am so excited for you, and a little jealous- I still have a few more weeks to go!

  • I'm so excited for you!!! I can't wait to see pictures!!!

    Very true!
Although they do have other uses besides something comfy to lay on while crated. Cody uses his dog bed as a toy to drag, throw, and defluff. I used to replace them every few months, but now I just restuff it and sew it back up. It looks like a franken-bed.

  • Ha! A frankenbed! I gave up trying to provide Abbey with a soft comfy bed. Every time I restuffed it and sewed it back up she would unstuff it and climb inside it like it was some kind of snuggle sack.

  • Yes, there are beds galore here - mostly because of the 3 cats we had/have. We are now down to 2 cats with Barney's passing. The beds we have are a very good size (big for the cats) so hopefully Kipawa will use them at some point. But quite honestly, if he naps with me while I sit on the couch, I will be more than happy! :) And I am sure at some point these beds will become frankenbeds. Love that term!

  • New avatar today, folks. That is puppy Kipawa a few weeks back!

I had a great conversation with Therese this morning. Kevin will be here tomorrow in the early morning. Therese kindly asked if we would be up. Up? Like she thinks we will be able to sleep tonight?

Kipawa is about 10 lbs. right now. And he already has a love for agility coursing - he loves the tube! So our backyard will be transformed into a smaller version agility course this spring. Our trainer does agility, so once he goes through puppy obedience and once his bone plates are stronger, I'll sign him up for agility.

He already knows a number of commands - sit/stay, door, go to mat and others.

Lots of little things to do today as final prep for his arrival. :)
    Happy New Year to everyone!

Ours are confined to the porch when we leave for work. They have an adequate amount of room to move around and they also have a doggie door they can go out to access the yard. It is great, if it is nice out they go and lounge on the deck and chase those pesky squirrels and if the weather is not good they can retreat back to the porch and lay on their bed inside. They are separated from the rest of the house with a baby gate that mounts to the wall. So far, fingers crossed, they haven't been able to figure out they can jump over the baby gate and it's been 3 years since we have moved into the house.

Although my DH gets yearly "puppy lust", my personal rule is "I don't take any basenji under 2". By 2, their brains have developed and their attention span is longer than a nanaosecond (where you are concerned). They still have plenty of youthful energy but are not uncontrollable maniacs bent on destruction. That said, I confess I get puppy-lust myself, they are just so cute and funny and adorable. That is how they live to adulthood! Anne in Tampa

She looks very sweet, whatever her parentage. We had a lab for 12 years. Sweet mild-mannered dog, a little needy and shed year-round. But great off leash, unlike the curlytails. Labs do tend to be mouthy and need something to chew on more than many breeds, but if she's older (older than 3) she may be beyond that. Either way, good luck with your new friend. Does she have a name yet?

I feel so sorry for them. They sent me this in an email, and I sent them a response asking them if they were sure of the parentage. They told me that they had rescued the dog from a life of being on a chain neglected in a backyard, and the owners had told them it was pit/lab. So I started asking them questions like: Does it have an undercoat? Does it sleep in bed? Does it counter-surf? Does it bark? Can she stand her ears up?…Wrinkly forehead when she does? Every answer was a basenji answer. The only "good" to come of this, if there is a silver lining, is that they are applying to join basenji companions, and basenji rescue. Basenji Rescue really needs more help in Texas which is where they are from. They also are happy that they can find another dog with the same characteristics as their "Daisy". I can't imagine life without basenjis(as I sit at the kitchen table with a dainty black/white Katy on my lap). Vegas
