My B makes me laugh

Basenji Talk
  • :) Well i decided to run myself a nice hot bathtub after a long day at work.

Hope is always iffy of the bathroom so i had no second thoughts as i left the tub to fill up as i went to the loo (seperate room from bathroom) i come back to discover…..

.....HOPE IN THE BATHTUB playing in the water LMAO! i called the other half up from the lounge room as we stood and watched in awe. (then she decided to get out and do a B500 .... on wooden floors... slipppperry!)

Then a few days later we were having a shower and she decided to "pop in" (she has to jump into the bathtub- we only have a shower curtain) LMAO.

I dont think there would be too many re-occurances though haha shes not a keen bathroom fan of course if we go try to grab her and put her in shes outta there quick smart - gotta be on her terms lol

oh and another random thing - we go to a puppy play group for socialisation, our first time yesterday. of course i got the "what is she" from most people.

for people that knew what she was...."ohh they are the barkless dogs"... me - "yeah ... doesnt make them...completly... silent" LOL ... "can you make her yodel for us?" Me(trying not to lol) "nah"

another lady - "ohh is she a sheba inu (sp?)" ... me - "nah, shes a basenji" .... lady- "oh, what are they?" LOL

at the end of the play time we were leaving as the larger dogs come in... would you believe it a sheba inu was in the pack, of course we managed to talk and shes like "omg its a basenji!" and then continues to tell me that her sheba inu always gets mistaken for a basenji! (private laugh to myself about the above conversation that just took place).

I also noticed.... Hope... does not STOP... all the others have a breather and a lay down with their owner... Hope just goes and goes and goes ...and goes! and when they all stop, she stirs them up the lil sh!t lol Shes also so much faster and agile then the others, shes running whilst looking back to make sure they are following her ha ha -_- and if they lay down she comes over and bats them with her paw like "get up now". Bossy girl

  • Lysh, Hope sounds like quite the character! Maybe you should start singing in the shower with her - you might get some baroos happening! I agree that basenjis are not recognizable by most people. I'm still a bit of time away from getting my first basenji, but I can tell you that when I tell people that I will be getting a basenji, I always get this puzzled look from them, and then if I don't "bark in" with an explanation of what a basenji is, I always get "what is that?". Usually, even after my explanation, I can tell that the person has no idea what kind of dog I am talking about. My husband and I did meet a lady the other day at the small mall near our home who had two whippets with her. We started talking and I mentioned to her that we would be getting a basenji. Turns out she has had both whippets and basenjis as her dogs of choice over the last 40 years. It is nice when someone knows what a basenji is!

hahaha singing in the shower - whenever we sing she looks at us like we are crazy and turns away and trundles off… hmm... maybe shes trying to tell me something

Yeah i get alot of "whats that/shes pretty/nice dog" while we go out walking (we have a lovely riverway that walkers use which we go for walks on, always nice and cool as theres big trees :)) It is nice when one knows what she is though:) i get the same blank stare from people after explaining what one is ha ha...

  • I would love to see Hope playing in the bath, how cute :)
Glad the puppy classes are going well i bet it's a lot of fun.

  • My Gossy doesn't seem inclined to jump in the shower with me but she does like to lick the water on the walls or what catches in the soap dish (ish).

  • Well .. both my partner and i know when the house is quiet it means little miss is up to mischief… we figured she was either down in the toilet or the bathroom so the other half got his phone out and turned the camera on.

We caught her in the bathtub ha ha ha she gave us the most evil look :D

(it was empty though) teehehee... shes got a thing for that tub.

    :) busted

and an extra photo the other half took when we were down the dog park for the social

    Shes my world :)

A coupple of issues in this thread! (Way to multi-task here people!) Treats: the whole "upset tummy" is definately a too much of a good thing issue. Whatever you decide to treat with, make them very small and just watch how much you give. My dogs go nuts for bologna or plain ham. Cheese is the perenial favorite, but never underestimate the power of a "Good Boy!!" Coats & "Cold" Weather: My boys have it rough. Living in the Midwest, it is not uncomming to spend all witner in the single digits (not counting windchill which often kicks us into the negative teens, if not worse). Both boys have dog coats made by Lands End in the same style (and cold weather specifications) as their Squall jacket series. It consists of an easy belly band and front chest closure meathod. No worries about tails or legs. Easy on, easy off. And my boys live in them during the winter. Dogs, just like people, quickly acclimate to the weather. If we deicde it's "Cold" at 50 degrees, they start to feel that way. If we decide 50 is downright balmy, the dogs learn that too. Walking: Oh, the perenial issue of B's! I agree with many of the posters here: it's all in the tone and your attitude. If you decide to be upbeat and positive and decisive, the B will follow! (But probably will quit at mile 6 if he hasn't had his ice cream yet… grin)

They are called Diastix. Some drug stores still carry them, but many have to special order them. You can find them online though.
