Cruelty and selfishness

Off Topic

  • I just have to vent a little this morning …
Several times now I've encountered joggers who insist on jogging with their dog but never allow the dog to stop and poop. Instead the dog is dragged along while s/he is pooping down the sidewalk.

I think this is a form of punishment and just cruelty to the dog who obviously really has to go.

I think this is just selfishness on the part of the jogger, who can't be bothered to stop a few seconds for the dog but must absolutely mind her/his jogging time.

I think this is unfriendly to others using the sidewalk, because not only do they not stop for the dog to poop, they don't stop to clean it up either - so now there's a poop trail for others to step in.

I hope they accidentally jog into poop and track it all over their nice carpets at home!

  • Its a shame these folks are so inconsiderate.

I agree with you Wizard, shame on them, I have seen this many times as well…a few times I even commented on it and they stopped so the pup could finish their thing..but I doubt they would've even stopped if I hadn't said something.
"Yes track it into your house, if you are going to be so selfish."

  • I guess the nasty thing to say to them would be "can you poop/pee while YOU are running?"

But, as our lovely Sharron mentioned once to me "if you can't say anything nice to someone, don't say it at all". So probably kind of relaying to them in a vacant fashion "oh, I think your dog is peeing/pooping" is the best thing to do.

I'm with you 100% on this one - really cruel to the dog who is trying to do their best to do business while outside. Why do people like this have dogs?

  • Not picking up after your dog carries fines in many states. Why not just have a video tape handy, and tape these folks ignoring their dogs waste - perhaps even do several days worth of video to show a pattern/history then contact your animal control.

I have heard that marathon runners do urinate/defecate while running so perhaps they do not see this as a problem so trying to reason with them on that issue would probably fall on deaf ears.

Seriously? Yuck! I can kinda understand the urinate part…but uh...would defecating while running a marathon be seriously uncomfortable, not to mention unsanitary! I can't imagine someone would *choose to do that.

  • Oh yea I remember working for the marathons going thru disney and someone mentioned people did that. I never saw or looked for wet/brown spots LOL but mostly saw runners stopping on the tree line to do their business with everyone passing by.

  • They wear diapers sometimes… but I am with you.. yuck.

@kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

@sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

@Kembe, nice post! We've gone to solid food chopped up in a food processor, but we're grinding it a bit more course as we go. So far, no puppies are choking, but good to know!
