Don't Underestimate Eagles

Off Topic

  • If you live in Eagle territory, pay attention to this.

Our Basenji are in no way as large as this deer.

    Be safe out there!

  • Thanks for posting that. We live in bald eagle territory here and we also border a wild bird sanctuary. We see them in the sky all the time. They are a joy to watch, as they use the thermals to wind their way higher and higher in the sky. But there is always imminent danger for any wildlife when they are out. Right now, they seem to be on the lookout for young fledgling birds. You can usually tell this because the parent birds (of the little ones) start to pester and bug the eagles in flight. As well, in the farm fields next to us, I think there are a lot of critters the eagles keep an eye out for.

Our cats are wise to them. They seem to always keep their eyes on them if they are flying above. Also, as our cats age (all 15 - 16 now) they tend to remain really close to the house while they are outside.

Eagles are beautiful but can be a concern. Thanks for sharing this.

  • There are many eagles here, as well as large hawks. When we are camping, we always keep an eye out when the large predator birds are circling - even if they aren't big enough to carry off our Basenji, they will rip them to shreds with those talons, and once they sink their beak into the animal's neck, it's all over.

  • Wow, I never considered an Eagle attacking a Deer. Eagles are really big though! We have Eagles and Hawks here too. Mostly hawks. Thanks for posting this.

  • I think those were Golden Eagles, they are even bigger than our Bald Eagles. I kept thinking how heavy they must seem, riding on their owner's arms across the plains.
    Very interesting video!

Chelsie-the B's don't get a chance to see them. The B's are in the front in a pen and the ducklings and chickens are in the back. After Shadow decided to help me butcher a chicken when we first moved in, I thought it prudent to keep them separated. They would definitely terrorize them. Yes, Robyn, I made the duck tractor. It has wheels on the one end so I can move it around. I do have a duck pen, and they will go in it when I fix the duck house. It seems rats, or something decided to make a meal of the one end and floor of the house. So, I have to fix that. I do really like it, but it won't be big enough in a couple of weeks for them. I will try to get more pics of the little monsters today. (And, the pen will work very well for one of the dogs if I ever need it!!) Yes, they grow very, very fast. If I can get a pic of them up and about, you will see how it's very hard to tell which one had the spraddle legs. The rouens are bigger than the muscoveys. There are three rouens and they have an eye stripe. @Maya: If you're living in Holland, you need a Friesian!!! :D I have the most wonderful friesian, her temperment is amazing. She's not even 3 yet but she is just so sweet and gentle!! But, do keep us updated. I've had horses since i was 3 and they are a huge part of my life. I couldnt be without them even though im not as involved in the horse world as i once was!! P.S. I have some photos from a show over here in the UK with shires in their traditional plaits and tack if anyone is interested in seeing them. Its just amazing!! Yes!! I love to see the pictures!!! I like the Friesian horses but it's not a breed wich can used for lots of things, they are to special i think :D I like the Friesian for shows and as a barouche horse (is it a good word?) I once ride a Friesian and it's different with riding a normal or western horse. They make larger steps and it's very comfortable riding! A friend of us breeds the Friesian :D @moetmum: That sounds exciting, hope it all goes to plan. Our neighbouring farmer used to breed shire horses, they don't breed now but still have loads of horses. They go to loads of shows, they were sponsored by a local brewery. The horses are fascinated by the basenjis, and always want to come and have a look! the b's aren't keen when they snort at them though. I have never heard of a horse milking farm before!! Wow!!! If it was a little bit near Holland, I really would come over to met you and take a look at the shires next door :D:D We're don't going to live in Holland :D In Germany they have also some very nice breeds Hannoveraan, holsteiner (i don't know the english names…0

Actually - I posted it on the Podengo group - lots of members in the area and looks like might be something from one of the hunt packs (or a golden GSD mix) Maybe one of them will bite.

Somebody wrote a letter to the editor in this morning's paper suggesting a microchip before he escapes again.
