Hopefully Babies for Langarni Basenjis.

Breeder Talk
  • Yup this is the fun time!!!! Glad to hear all is going well…. My pups usually opened eyes at around 12 to 15 days, girls first and then boys.....

  • Just checked out your website and the most adorable photos of the puppies! I just want to grab a big blanket, put them ALL in there and have them on my lap! What cuties.

  • So happy to hear that all is good..love seeing the pictures, keep them coming.

  • Thanks guys :)…

Kipawa, I have heart failure about once a day, cos my daughters keep taking one to have a cuddle, and the head count is wrong... So there's me shouting... "Do you have ...... ???", Yes, Im giving ...... a cuddle up here" ;)... I wont mention putting all 6 in a blanket and taking them ALL upstairs

3 weeks old yesterday, new pics up on the website :). I tried to take pretend 'stacked shots' of them all, didnt work ;). Legs all over the place...

  • Ooo pups! Congrats!! How are they all going? i have found your website - its great.

  • Thanks Lysh :)…

They are going really well, growing like weeds !!! They are just beginning to play with each other a bit, up on their wobbly widdle legs :D...

They are just starting to be at the fun stage... Love watching them. Real time-wasters too ;)...

Just about to go and find my registered names for them all... Exciting :)...

  • naww :)

what are you going to do with their reg names - have you got a theme or something you will go by?

  • Yep theme is right…

They will be Langarni African ...... The last name will be african, beginning with A, (cos its my A litter), with some sort of applicable meaning :)...

They had their first try at some minced beef last night, and then again this am... LOOOOOOOVED it :)... Ochre was very keen to help them, and she enjoyed cleaning up the mess later, as well :D

  • Another update…

Puppies are 5 1/2 weeks old now. They are all doing well, putting on weight, feeding well, running around, playing etc, etc. Its lovely at this age, watching their little personalities develop... So cute :)

More pics on our website. They all have their own folders, cos the litters page was just getting too big !!!

Vaccinations and microchip at 8 weeks, and already booked in for their eye exams, when they are 11 weeks old. Thats the problem with living in a very small state, we rely on a visiting eye specialist to come here from the 'big island'... So unfortunately, pups need to stay here for the extra week, just so they can get their eye test done :(... It will allow me to get some extra training, socialisation etc, etc into them though :D... Thats got to be a good thing !!!

Sent off their registration papers, on Monday, so Im hoping for a fast return, (cos I paid extra for this fast-track to be done), so I hope the middle of next week to have them back...

  • have you any potential puppy owners?

  • Ooops, I havent been in here for a while, so I mised your post Lysh :o

I have had a very busy time over the last few weeks… I was VERY lucky to have the owner of the sire, fly to my place last weekend, when the pups were 8 weeks old, and help me to assess/grade them... I learnt sooooo much from Helen. She was wonderful, allowing me to spend all the time picking her brain, about anything and everything B related:)...

So the long and the short of it is, that Denis, (now called Java), is staying here, to be loved and shown by us. The other boy, Arrow, (now called Kaos, and beginning to live up to his name already, even though he has only had this name for a few days !!!), is going to a show home in Queensland, and the little darkhorse of the litter, is Diamond, (who is now called................................ Diamond :D), is going to hit the very competitive show scene in NSW :). I have 1 other girl, Jane, (who at this stage has no name !!!), going to live in Victoria as a VERY much loved pet. The other 2, Tilly and Stripe are still available, as both potential owners have needed to pull out of the sale...

So I am very happy to have 3 of the 6 into showhomes, and Im sure the last 2 will find homes soon.

They will leave for their new homes around the 13th Sept, a little longer than I hoped for, but I need to get their eyes tested, and unfortunately the Eye Specialist we have in Tassie is a guy from the "Big Island", who only visits once every 6-8 weeks...

We have had some puter problems, but things are just starting to get sorted out, and we hope to have the website up and running again, i.e. updated, by the end of next weekend :)... Fingers crossed !!!

Java will be known as Langarni African Aluko, Kaos is Langarni African Azibo and Diamond is Langarni African Araya...

  • Finally got Mr Saba to help download these pics of the 3 pups that have gone into their show homes :)… They are 10 weeks in these pics. Not the best of them, especially their heads but they will have to do, till I can download more recent ones, from the camera...

The first 3 are of little Miss Diamond, who has gone to a show home in NSW... I will be able to see her this weekend, as on Friday we are flying up to NSW to show Ochre, Vanda and Java, (was Denis), at the Basenji Club of NSW Specialty show... Getting very nervous, and excited !!! Cant wait to finally meet Kylie as well...

The next 3 are of Arrow, (now called Kaos), who is in a show home in Qld, and he has had his first couple of shows, winning a few Baby of Breeds, against competition :)… Not really very happy with Arrow pics at all, doesnt do him justice at all... Will try to find some better ones of him, when we come back from Sydney !!!

The final 3 are of Java, who is staying here :D… He will be having his first show this weekend at the Specialty. We receive our numbers prior to the show, and he is number 21, and as he is in the very first class of the day, I know that there are at least 21 baby puppy dogs   ...

The other 3 puppies have all gone to their new homes and all are settling in very well. Owners all seem happy with them, and I am really happy that I have been able to match the right pup with the right owners, (well at least its sure looks like it at this stage !!!)…

Thank you for the replies. Yes, either a total scam or just irresponsible, deceptive and lying individuals trying to make a buck. I am so glad I found this forum. Federico

@Kipawa: I think most people will agree that neutering a dog does not spoil their spirit or temperament. More often, spaying or neutering results in a more calm, balanced animal. I agree, but we have lots of people on the Forum from over the "pond" and they have most different ideas about spay/neuter, different culture, different ideas…. and that is their right.... sometimes we all will need to agree to disagree..

Everyone pretty much already covered what I was going to say :) I spoke with Toni before I got my boy because I am from Maryland. I ended up going with a breeder in Florida because at the time, that's where I was living. If I were to get another basenji pup though, I would definitely go to Toni. She was so great at answering any/all of my questions & also was very forthcoming about information regarding her dogs & her home. She offered, more than once, for me to come see her dogs while I was back in Maryland for vacation last winter.

@agilebasenji: So Breeder A said Breeder B didn't test? Personally, I'd do some homework before I'd believe what Breeder A said about Breeder B. Maybe it's true, and if it is SHAME on Breeder B! But I've learned that just because 2 people breed basenjis, doesn't mean they like each other. (And just for the record, I have no idea who Breeder A and Breeder B are.) Exactly…. and it is easy enough to check on the OFA site or Sally's pedigree site (of course that is not updated until OFA site is updated). But never go on what "he said/she said"... at least I don't... but there has been much discussion on other lists about well know breeder not testing or doing a questionable breeding with tested dogs... all pretty easily documented on the OFA site. So in some cases could be "he said/she said" with no truth to the statements..... as said, best and the responsible thing to do is check out your facts.

@Kipawa: Boy, I will put my flame retardent suit on here before I say this - in the picture of the four basenjis, well, they look so unhappy. ALL of them. I sympathize with the breeder in that she has some medical/mental restrictions, but the look of the breeding facility frightens me. If she has medical/mental restrictions she should NOT be breeding. And I agree about the conditions of the kennels. They are dirty and unkept. And as said, if there are no papers/unregistered AKC then she should not be breeding.
