  • I believe this is Mr. Opara's website.. http://liwang.republika.pl/english/index_e.html

  • Thanks Janneke

  • Mr. Opara was judging basenjis at WDS 06 in Poland.;)

  • Pat - Janusz Opara judged our (Basenji Owners and Breeders Association) some years ago. I can't remember just how many but if you wish I can find the catalogue and tell you.

He seemed knowledgeable but was very confused about our judging procedures - not necessarily his fault but as this was an overseas appointment you would have thought he would been careful to study the UK requirements.

He was recommended by Jane Wilson Stringer (Horsleys) - you may have heard of her - she exported to the USA many times. She was one of the first in the UK to breed black and whites. Regrettably she died a few years ago.

  • Thank you Patty for the information. Yes, I can understand how judges could be confused with ring procedure. It happens here a lot when we get international judges. And I would venture to guess that even if you read the procedures, doing them "real" time can get to be a challenge.

  • Pat - Agreed. I have never accepted an overseas judging appointment - partly for that reason!

  • I have judged a couple of overseas specialties and have found my efficient and helpful stewards to be worth their weight in gold; they always are of course, but with an unfamiliar system and language this is even more true.:)

That was the case with my mum also and it also helped that I was able to clue her up on the system beforehand, well as best as I could lol

That is so true, a good ring steward is for sure worth their weight in gold regardless of the situation. I have nothing but the greatest respect for a good ring steward…... and I can image being in a situation that you are in a strange country with different judging procedures how much the judge would rely on the ring steward

Thanks Clay, Arlene & Andrea - it was definitely a tough spring. :( Thankfully things are starting to look up. Ozzy has been a really happy addition to our home. It is nice to have a basenji attuned to me :D - he's such a momma's boy. Yes Arlene, Ozzy is from Jean's band of 9 :D. Hey the last time she bred a litter there were only 2, so this evens things out I guess :D. And Clay, hard to compare - ice cream social or French wine ;)… but all kidding aside, if I go to France for only 2 weeks, I may try to do a brief fly in (no dog) to 2011 National like I did in KY last year - but I have much time to figure that out...

Diana, yes there are wrong doings in UKC, just as there are in AKC. Yes, there are handlers, and I've seen them. And yeah, all they have to do is put their name on the dog. But in general, there is a lot less of that going on. (I had said less political, not non political. lol) At least there are written rules against it. The integrity of the people showing is another story. I guess I can't speak for the people who run the shows either, haven't been to enough. They are truly geared towards owners and family dogs so yeah you're going to get some backyard people and yahoos. lol While AKC has a much more high class stigma to it, there is a lot of crap that goes on at those shows too. I've seen PM dogs that get put with a handler and finish. An organization is only as good as the people who are involved in it. There are some very respectable people in UKC, but yeah then there are others too! Most of the folks I see at UKC are AKC folks. All the sighthounds I've ever run across have all been AKC people. Look at AKC, we can prove there are registered dogs with false pedigrees yet they do nothing. And while they're much bigger and stronger, things can be said for a lack of integrity there too, both in the show ring and the registration department. I'm certainly not trying to knock either registry, just point out some impressions and differences of each.

@soulmate: Never heared of these judges before. But I have to tell you, that I am quite happy with these lots of new judges no one knows already. So you never know, what you can expect….. Regards, Esther That's True! :D On my showlist there are many unknown judges! Only hope they all know enough of B's :D @ibi_n_sane: well mrs, Broecker, she judges my ibizans once on a show in the morning and later she called them back as she had to judge the pharaohhounds… she is also not very carefull and really rough with the dogs she judges. said enough? >grin< but for the group you should not care about this ;) Thanks :D For the group judgements we don't mind the judge.. But to call in an Ibizan for a Pharaoh… hmz... hahahaha (did they play in the mud the day before show???)

@renaultf1: Actually, the Raven that BasenjiBoy owns is not THIS Raven. This Raven (Eldorado n Akuaba's Nevermore) is owned by Andrew Sawler (same person that owns Eldorado Echo of an Icon…"Jimmy"). BasenjiBoy does have one of the Never pups, though...Rylee (Eldorado n Akuaba's Never Been Kissed)...a red girl. My understanding was that Rylee was at the National but misbehaved on the table... Ooops….that is right, of course! Their new girl IS Rylee...sorry about that!
