Agility with Zest! trial 4.

    Zest finished her Novice Agility Perferred (NAP) this weekend and got her second Novice P Jumpers leg. Her two NQ runs were nice, took an extra jump in jumpers and was a little distracted in her first ever Open P standard run. All in all, I'm very pleased with her runs this weekend. She's still showing good focus and speed, a willingness to work with me, and seems to be having fun. We're done for the year, but our next trial (Jan) she'll be doing 16" jump height and back to novice.

    And in other news, Jet celebrates his 12th birthday today.

    Zest way to go yes sounds like this was a nice finish. Rest and get ready for Jan.

    The breeding that didn't take last year, are you going to retry? Do you still have frozen "Jet"?

    and yes, there is some frozen jet pellets at the vet's.

    You might want to look into the Jumping Chollas Agility Club; they are a nice group of people, and use overall good training methods for basenjis. I can't think of anyone off hand training their basenji for agility in Phoenix, but a couple of us from Tucson show up and run our dogs at the JCAC trials. The Phoenix Field and Obedience Club does a great job putting on obedience trials, and they do offer training classes. I can't verify the training methods used, so you would have to check and see if they are agreeable to you and how you want to acheive your goals with your basenji. There are a lot of nice people in that club as well, so just getting to know some of them can lead you to training classes or instructors with whom you should be comfortable. Again, I don't know of anyone in Phoenix actively showing basenjis in obedience right now, but we Tucsonans show up and show off our kids in Rally and regular Obedience. Good luck with your furkid!     I have always feed morning and evening… if by chance you are free feeding that will add to your problem of trying to get her on a schedule.

We're in Los Angeles; any recommendations on the closest coursing location(s)? ~ Lori ~ If you check ASFA (www.asfa.org) and AKC (www.akc.org) you can find were trial are being held… also Lisa might chime in here and give you a PM to her Mom that lives in So. Cal and courses quite a lot.
