Obedience, Rally, and Agility

  • Hi, all. I'm new here, so I don't know who all might be listening. My dogs and I participate in Obedience, Rally, and Agility. Chaco has his CD and RN. I'm just starting him on Agility. Sable is now enrolled in beginning Obedience. I'm glad to listen to anyone who has ideas on training in these areas. TTYL

  • I started competing in rally last year. My boy, Nicky, earned his RN in April. My girls are still not quite ready. We are working on attention when we are out in new places. They know all the commands but when we get out to a trial they become very distracted.

I have started Agility training with my girls this Spring. Both of them really love it. They each are very different in their attitudes and training challenges. Rally, my 5 year old, has no fear and does everything with plenty of speed but sometimes gets so excited she forgets she is part of team and starts to do her own thing. Rio, 19 months old, is more cautious. She is great on her contacts but needs to work on her speed. My mom has just started Rio's brother in Agility two weeks ago and says he is just like Rally, very eager to do everything, sometimes twice.

  • Hey girls….I have been working with Blondie on her basics, but I need just a simple list of the exercises that we would encounter in Rally....any ideas about where I could find that? Thanks :)

  • The AKC website has a list of the signs and their descriptions, http://www.akc.org/pdfs/rulebooks/ROR999.pdf

At the Novice level it is sit, down, call front, finish left, finish right, and lots of heeling.

  • Thanks, Lisa :)

Well, that was a bust, turns out the course wasn't fully enclosed alone, too many other dogs to even pay attention. She did have a blast with all the other happy dogs! So it was still a fun outing!

oh that was just painful to watch (at least my runs!). it's a shame the camera person focused on me instead of getting Zest running into the fence. On the upside, gosh the equipment looks nice! results are posted here: http://www.lookoutgoldens.com/BCOA%202010.htm

I have been a bit of chicken about entering a competition. I think I am going to give one a try either this May or June. I am going to start in CPE because their level 1 should be a good place for me the novice handler and Rio my novice dog.

I am working with an APDT trainer, they are very expensive if you have them come to your house one on one, at least this one is. She is very good, but it is hard to get my girl who was abused to allow the woman inside. I have stopped having her here for the time being, and may pursue classes when I get my girl socialized better! Carol

Hi I just started mica on Rally I- we are into the second week - we are learning left turn - right turn - front - weave between cones and it is alot of fun. I did not use clicker training before this dog training class but mica catches on very easily - after I took a private class with her on clicker training. I also found out you can do rally I with non-akc dogs also for competition which makes me happy, too. Mica likes to be sociable with all the other dogs (only three others) at the class - so sometimes she wants to say hello hello to everyone, including the trainer. But when she concentrates, she does quite well. It takes work and practice. The only thing is the dog school seems too serious, sometimes, but since I want to work with her, I will work through this class. BaMicas mom
