  • You can also cook yams which provides the same fiber. I steam cook them when I do.

  • oh man, has anyone else had the sweet potato french fries? de-lish!!! Target used to have them, but haven't the last couple of times i've been. thankfully i found them at costco, so i got a HUGE bag. (Costco is a warehouse store where you can only buy things in bulk. dogs like it because they often have bully sticks.)

  • I love sweet potato fries.

  • Well that just stinks. rats.
actually my dogs prefer the "cheap" brand instead of libby's. i think it is too strong. oh well.

Not just Libby's, unfortunately. It would be the cheap brands too.

And on another topic, sweet potato french fries rock! They even have them on the lunch menu at work now. I don't feel so guilty about getting the french fries then. :)

  • Yes sweet potato anything for me please, except maybe pie..nope has to be foodie stuff, not after dinner stuff, and if they are fried, even better..

Waffle shortage, I just about fell out of my office chair this morning when I read that, I mean come on, do we have to make that news..?
My kids love peanut butter jelly waffle sandwiches, so they will be hurt'n, but there are other brands besides Eggo..

Or Sweet Potato, potato chips… again.. de-lish!!!!!

  • We get frozen sweet potato fries and love them. sometimes I give the girls one before cooking, and they think they are frozen treats.

    ..

That first recipe I posted was for Sweet potato cheesecake. You might change your mind. ;)
    But then I love cheesecake.

  • I was mainly thinking sw. pot pie..not a favorite, cheese cake sounds very interesting…and dreamy, I mean creamy..;)

Jepp, it has gotten printed, it looks and sounds delish..

  • OK everybody this thread is going off topic from pumpkin shortages to sweet potato recipes. Let's all calm down here and get back to the subject. (-:

  • Wouldn't any kind of squash work? Does it have to be pumpkin or can it be, I don't know, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, hubbard squash….?

We used to grow all of those when I was a brat ankle-biter kid on the farm. (And zucchini...lots and lots of zucchini... I still have nightmares about fried zucchini, zucchini soup, zucchini bread, zucchini zucchini zucchini:eek:)

Here's Belinda being forced to draw zucchinis.:D

I think any of those squashes would be fine.

  • Yes zucchini and fried green tomatoes and rubarh pie yes greens picked from yard looked like weeds. What about homemade bourbon balls at holidays?

  • I knew I should have put this thread in the off topic section. :p:D

  • Sorry Nemo the zucchins did it set me off on old time foods. Got my pumpkin pies in Sara Lee boxes today just in case.

  • The most hilarious thing about the photo is that little girl could pass for me when I was her age…at least pass as my sister. :D

  • I haven't given Cody pumpkin, but he loves sweet potatoes, thankfully. We have had an overabundance of sweet potatoes this year, and most of them are huge (3-4 times the size that they usually are). We've actually had them with dinner so often in the last few weeks, we've joked about writing a book entitled "1001 Ways to Cook a Sweet Potato". I usually make a pumpkin cheesecake for the holidays, but I will have to try the sweet potato cheesecake.

  • another kind of pumpkin shortage? I mean short pumpkins…

Thank you everybody so much! I appreciate all the info. I had some vanilla Breyer's all natural and gave my guy a taste of that... boy does he seem to think that's a great treat! Obviously, though I don't want that to be the only thing I do. I'm going to follow up with our vet on getting a draw for the full thyroid panel at hemopet once next pay check comes through. You were right he was only checked for T4. Thank again basenji forums! I was looking back at pics from when he was younger and weighed more. I think he's always been a bit taller than standard and had a little barrel chest. Used to call him a basenji bouncer at the dog park. He was all about playing with the labs, pits and other big dogs - probably because he knew he could outrun them if they ever got too rough. He's much more about slow walks with me and lap snuggles these days ❤

I had a somewhat similar experience. Joey had a seizure which I correlate to taking Simparica. He looked terrible so took him to the vet when the first seizure happened and he was late Stage 2. Put him on Royal Canin kidney kibble and Hills kidney wet food and 4 years later he has only had 1 more seizure and his kidney values have remained constant. I will believe your homemade version is most likely better if you have the correct proportions. All the best to your Bs! Joey will be 15 in November.

8 mos old is still on Royal Canine medium size puppy as recommended by vet. Very interested in how you change up their food. Glad to hear that because I would like to change him from chicken based to something else as adult. Had always been advised not to keep changing food as it was hard on their system. Breeder advised to use high protein and fat dog food (60% protein, 30% fat). What is your opinion on this? I am starting to add 1/2 tsp coconut oil daily to dog food for winter feeding. Advised it had ingredients similar to mother's milk. What say you about this?

Basenjimamma - I'll look at the varieties of Heinz baby food. Thank you for the tip. I notice that most say cook the sweet potatoes. Does anyone feed them raw?
