On the move

  • Yay we have found a house in Scotland:D We will be in it in time for xmas. Really looking forward to moving back to my home country but will miss hubby as he still has 3 years left so will be living in the mess married unaccompanied:( It will be very strange being back on civvie street but good at the same time. As much as I like it here in Ireland it will be nice not having to worry about where you can and can't go and also say when people ask what your husband does:rolleyes:

Glad you are on your way home..Sorry about the years apart from your husband still, that must be tough..I long for my husband to come home every day..when 5:30 pm rolls around, I can not envision how it is to be apart for longer times..
Do you have family in the town/city that you are moving to?

Yes my parents and brother live there and I also still have lots of friends there so not too bad really. We had not actually planned on buying a house for another couple of years, but as the house prices are starting to rise again we thought we were better doing it now.

  • That's lovely news Jenny. You'll be glad to be on home turf again. Shame your hubby has to stay back though, still i'm sure the 3 years will fly by as they do.

Yes really looking forward to it and I'm sure the next 3 years will fly by, I don't know where this year has gone:eek: Will be nice to be able to go to some open shows for a change, it's been years since I went to one.

  • I look forward to seeing you at them too! More Basenjis in Scotland…fantastic :-)

  • Glad you have found a house Jenny, you are probably right to buy it now if house prices are going to rise. I'm sure 3 years wil fly by

@sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

@Andrew: Thanks for the well wishes!! And Nicki & Robyn; y'all won't even notice I'm gone, especially when we're sitting on the beach drinking mai tais :) We're in Savannah now. I needed to come down to look at properties in person for renting. I brought Callie & Lola with me because I thought it would be easier just to have them than to arrange getting them to the breeder to keep them while I was out of town for only 1 night. Not many Savannah hotels allow dogs, so we ended up in a really posh hotel called The Mansion on Forsyth. The entire staff is very sweet to the girls, greets them and pets them. My heart broke open & fell on the floor when we met a 3 year old in a stroller in the lobby. She obviously has a dog at home, and was very happy to meet Callie & Lola. She grabbed Callie's face and smooshed it around, and although it wasn't painful to Callie, I'm sure it was annoying. She just sat there and let the girl love all over her, very patiently and sweetly. Lola even let the little girl pet her a little, which is a HUGE deal for Lola!! She is so scared of kids & usually growls & gets a little defensive & hides behind me. I've been working with her by making sure every little kid we meet gives her treats & she gets praise, so I was so happy to see Lola have a positive reaction to a child. We got into the room & Callie & Lola instantly jumped on the fluffy king size bed (Callie is currently building a nest in the pillows; always where she goes when we get in a hotel). Then they ran to investigate the window. We're on the ground floor looking onto a fairly busy sidewalk & road, with lots to see. The window is only 2 feet off the ground, with a ledge big enough for them to sit on. I jumped in the shower & when I got out 20 minutes later, they were both staring out the window, mesmerized with all the activity outdoors. We got in a good walk in the square across the street from our hotel, and they have been so patient with all the crate time they've logged today (5 hours in the car, plus several hours while I was looking at apartments and then again when i went out for dinner & drinks). Its supposed to rain tomorrow, but if it doesn't we may meet up with some Ibizan friends, or maybe go to dog friendly Fort Pulaski & a dog friendly restaurant (apparently Savannah is VERY dog friendly!!! Yay!) I'm so glad I brought them with me. They really make the trip that much better, rather than more stressful. I have stayed at the Mansion before it is really a funky boutique hotel for being in an old southern city like Savannah. So if your there, I guess we won't see you at lure coursing practice tomorrow.

I've made a lot of trips around Sacramento. There are a lot of nice areas there. The climate is a lot more temperate than CT. Good luck in The Golden State!

Oh man..Westchester is pricey :( I work in Manhattan & live in NJ. Could you possibly find something in NJ?? Or perhaps a place over the Tappan Zee Bridge which is Rockland County or Orange County which both are still in NY except on the other side of the Hudson River. Prices are usually better in this area. You can send me a PM if you'd like to chat more!
