Ft Hood, TX

  • After hearing the news of the crimes committed today at FT Hood, I can only sit here stunned. Of course, my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. I have my own speculations as to the cause of this violence, but I will keep them to myself so as not to create discord.

This is an example of the perils our fighting men and women face in order to protect our liberty. May the victims and families find peace.

  • Yes, its awful isn't it.
Seems to be happening more and more.
    Sigh

  • Houston

I am actually in shock.. I didn't know until I saw your thread, of course I had to check the news and oh my –--. What is going on in the world? I don't understand..

  • I didn't know either - I haven't had the news on all day!
    Absolutely sickening and shocking. Heartbreaking.
    AJ's Human, I agree.

I'll pray for the poor families who lost loved ones and for those who are injured.

  • Absolutely terrible, what is the world coming to :(

  • We have a cousin stationed there now. He just returned from a year in Iraq. He is safe, PTL. Prayers to all.

  • Thank goodness your cousin is safe, you wouls think that Iraq would of been more dangerous than the base he returned to

@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.

@kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

@sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

@Kembe, nice post! We've gone to solid food chopped up in a food processor, but we're grinding it a bit more course as we go. So far, no puppies are choking, but good to know!
