Replying late, but Mankia Basenjis is in Ontario, as well, as is Duara basenjis.
Mankia is in Windsor and Duara is in Sherkston.
Good luck!
She told me that part of what is different about that dog was the richness of the red. It's a deeper color.
Interesting…never heard that about the red colour before.
There was one dog there that really stood out in comparison. The red was practically Irish Setter red. It was a different dog than I was thinking of but it was shown in the judging seminar too.
That red (like an Irish Setter) called "chestnut" red is a deep rich red color… something that the breed has been losing over the last many years... and like many other things, it does run in different lines.
And yes, Rita's pup was the offspring from an "opps" breeding last fall. Sire was born in 2004, Dam in 2003 but goes back to Rita's original stock (she has been in the breed a long time) and also to Carol Webb's dogs

Really interesting. Of my 2 r/w - Ruby is definitely the deep chestnut and Brando is not, he's more of a tan colour. I did notice at the National that there weren't too many r/w there that were Ruby's colour of red (I did see some though), but never thought anything of it other than just a different hue; didn't realize that it was a colour that was being lost.
About a year ago I saw a b with a red coat that was darker than Ruby's and that was one of Debbie Hauri's - Versace, I think it was.

Did you make it to National after all?

Yup…flew in Thursday (wanted to make it in time for the breeder seminar), out on Sunday - immediately after BOB.
Met some lovely people, saw Liyah misbehave in the ring  , had some good laughs and saw some beautiful dogs that I'd only ever read or heard about. My only trip inside the ring was to bring a special in for roll call on Sunday :D. A whirlwind trip all in all.

Well, shoot! It would have been nice to meet you. Maybe next time.
If you go to Sally's website and look up lots of the older ZURI-bred dogs you will see that same coat color.
I had a boy that was WD/BW at the 2001 national… lovely dog... dark dark red... he had a ZURI dam.
The picture quality in these isn't as good as it could be, but you get the idea... the color is around, you just have to have it in your pedigrees:
and this one is much lighter than the dog actually is in person:
The first one is better, that is the color of Rita's dog.
Both B's are to die for very pretty love there color.
