@elbrant That's how all my 8-some learned to catch.
If food dropped on the floor - you lost it ! So they all stood on their hind legs and it was like feeding a nest of fledgling sparrows. A gentle toss of the treat and someone caught it !
Hello all! I'm Sadie. I'd never had a dog before getting re-married last year. My husband has an 8 year old female Basenji named Haley. I have 2 sons in college and I gained 3 step-sons! I was not in the least bit worried about being a step mom to boys…luckily, I love teenage boys.......but, I had no idea how I'd handle having a step-dog! Lo and behold, I ADORE her!!!!!! We've become very best friends! I can't imagine my life without her! She's somewhat of a nut case (!) so I'll eventually write to all of you for advise. In the meantime, I'm loving this fascinating little being!
Welcome…and congrats on the marriage and "adoption"! You'll find out who's adopted who over time…this forum is a great way to get familiar with (although from the "nut case" comment, it sounds like you're already on your way...) and learn and of course, share all things "Basenji". Looking forward to hearing (and maybe seeing) from you in the future!
Hello welcome to the forum
Hello and welcome to the forum:D
Welcome to the forum, we are glad you are here. We would love for you to share about Haley and show us pictures too..
Welcome. I am also with Basenjimamma love to see pictures. Looks like with your marriage you also got a new daughter (basenji).
Rita Jean
Welcome!!!
Great way to "fall" into the Basenji's!
Welcome! Wonderful that you and Haley hit it off so well!
Congrats and welcome to the forum!
I'm with the others… can't wait to see pics!
Welcome to the forum. Would love to see pics and hear the crazy stories of you and Haley
Welcome to our group!
Thank you all for your welcoming words! I'm learning alot by reading your posts. Sounds like some of the things I think are "weird" about Haley are actually normal for Basenjis…...but, a few things may be uniquely HER. I'm trying to figure out if she has separation anxiety or is just MAD at me when I leave the house without her.......I'm going to try a few things that I've read in this forum. Thanks everyone!
Welcome to the forum. Don't forget to post some pics
Thank you….........OK, I'll post pics as soon as I can gather them together.
Welcome to the forum!! When you marry a Basenji is it "Barooo I do"?
hee-hee Yes, I 'spose so! Unfortunately Haley was the only family member who DIDN'T get to attend the wedding. We were married on the steps of the Sacramento capitol building…..only my 2 sons and my husband's 3 sons attending. I'm so glad my step-dog is a girl!! ha-ha
Ooh - you and she are quite outnumbered with all of those boys! You girls better stick together!!
Welcome Sadie! Yes, she may be quite mad when you leave. After all those years in a house loaded with testosterone, she probably feels she's found her estrogen soul mate :D.
An online Basenji dictionary would not have a definition for "weird". It would just say "see 'Normal', 'Attention Getting', 'Innate Behavior', 'Prozak'," and be supported by google ad pop-ups for king size beds, toilet paper sales, underwear outlet stores, and indestructible dog toys (which we all know only exist in fantasy land). :D:D
LOL snorky998! So true! Welcome Sybersade!
Hmmmmm….......I'm trying to figure out how to add pictures to a post.
Hey! It worked! This is a picture of our wedding in front of the capitol building in Sacramento, CA. Me, John, my 2 sons, and his 3 sons.
I'll try to post some pics of Haley next.
