My pregnancy

Behavioral Issues

  • That is really great your all ready and you really did it early. With our daughter they could not tell what we were having so all of us had to wait. We did not think we were every going to have kids so this was like were did you come from. My husband and I just made up our minds that was ok just could do more in life.

When it came to names we had so much ground to cover it was hard so both of our children have three names and there last name.

We knew what we were having with our son and that made it a lot easier to get the room ready and the clothes. The only bad thing was we could not pass clothes down to the next one.

A friend of ours had made each of children blankets out of yarn that we used to bring them home in. I took the clothes and booties and blankets and had porcelain dolls made to look as much as could be as my children and put the homecomming clothes and blanket on them. Hopefully someday when I am a granny I can pass this on.

Well we are not gray in Kansas anymore it is raining cats and dogs here but thats ok.

  • Lovely post. I too, smiled the through the entire read. Pregnancy is an amazing experience. How the pups respond to it make it even more so. Looking forward to hearing about when the new little one arrives.

    Wow! That sounds so special!!!

We did not have any rain today, that's good for us since the boys painted part of the ship today!

  • OMG….what a GREAT story. I'm so happy for you and the new addition to your family. Please keep us posted on the family's progress.

It sounds like your fur-babies are as much into this as the rest of the family. That's WONDERFUL!! IMO, they really do feel our emotions, react to our hormones/bodily smells/biological changes, and 90% of the time, respond appropriately.

Bless you dearest new mother to be. You're in my prayers. Keep us posted.

  • Kim , i realy enjoyed reading your post, its fascinating to read about the Dogs reactions, i wonder what they think. It sounds as if you have done lots of preperation work with them.
What English names have you chosen?
Try to rest and relax as much as possible before the baby arrives, your lives will completely change with a baby so make the most of the time now.

  • Buana, hi hope all is well and your feeling good. How much longer to go? Are you and the dogs all getting spoiled taking life easy? I do hope you are taking it easy. Let us know how you are doing.

  • Thank you very much for you interest Rita Jean :)
    Here is a full update!

It's coming very close at the moment, four more weeks to go but I really think I'm earlier.. I'm walking a week ahead on the count down (from week 17, everyting is as it would be the 18th week)

We are sailing our last trip now.. From Amsterdam to Bulstringen and from Bulstringen back to Hengelo (holland)
We will be in Bulstringen (that's close to Berlin) this tuesday and the company there promised us they took notice of the little time we have and they will unload and load us as fast as they can.
Then we sail back to Holland and unload at Hengelo, then sail empty to Nieuwegein (that's close to Utrecht and close to my family)
We will be there about the 18th of September.. two weeks before the actual due date.

This week we had a appointment with the midwife (is that the good word?) for my health check but the drive to Holland is too far (more then 3,5 hour) so we tryed to call a hospital in Bulstringen and they were so friendly and nice. We can come for my health check there, no problem! :)

Also the couple of company's that provide our materials to transport are so nice! They really tryed to think with us and give us a very good last trip to make. (we decide for ourselfse wich trip we choose to make)
In holland the tranports world is having a bad time, so there are very little trips to choose from.. we were afraid we had to choose all different little trips before the 18th of september but then they called us. If we wanted to make our favorite trip to Germany…. YES!!!!

The people in the transport world are mostly a bit rough, escpessially the load and unload company's but they are now so friendly and call us sometime to ask how it's going.. Gives us such a nice feeling!

With me everyting is great, i'm feeling very good and I still can do my own work :o (o no i just can't let Kas do everyting)
I just take some more time, rest a bit while i'm working and thats going great..
I even started a new training with my brindle boy... Fetching...
We bought a official fetching toy and it took me a few hours to make Chafuko clear what he has to do.. (read: I had to fetch it for myselfe a hundred times) but now he knows and he really likes it..
    A new hobby... hahaha

The only negative issue is my weight :(.. The Dutch standart is to gain 15 to 20 kilo's but I only gained 5..
In the first months I lost weight, then I gained 5 kilo's and the last month untill this day I gained nothing.
The doctors told us, the baby will take everyting he needs. It has nothing to do with the baby. It's just me that lost some weight, I think because of all sort of things like I won't eat that much and I keep having my exercise (I like to walk, and play with the dogs as much as I can)
I'm very happy the baby is a 100% healthy.. :D

So I'll keep you all updated :D

I have a nice picture to share!!!
Kas painted my tummy yesterday... (there is a advertisement on the tv with pregnant woman and a painted tummy so there's the idea)
A 90 minute sit for me, but a great result ON picture! (and i'm happy it came off with a little water hahah)

  • nice to read the update Kim :)
I hope the baby doesnt look anything like the thing Kas painted on your tummy , allthough I know what he thinks of newborns  I have seen enough movies to have all sorts of thought going through my brain right now

maybe Tiemen will be interested in adopting the baby when it turns out to look like Giger's Alien :p

Fist off..gorgeous tummy. Second good to hear that you are doing good. Just make sure to rest as much as you can/feel like, 'cause once the baby is here, that is over for a while, sometimes a long while..LOL. thirdly enjoy this last couple of weeks, it is a very special time..

  • I love the tummy picture that is great. We needed pictures of you doing the fetch were was the camera?

I am so very happy that you are doing so very well and all is good. Those last few weeks went really fast for me like one day and the next it was over. Well really it was just start but over for the tummy carry.

I can hardly wait to see all the pictures of baby and the dogs I know there are really going to be some great ones.

I would say that you and your husband are very kind that is why the shipping people work so well with you all. One of my hillbilly words (you all). You all must do your job and do it to the best .

Years and years ago I was a owner operator drove eighteen wheeler over the road and the company I was leased to was good to me but I learned you had give to get but they were really good to me.

Please keep us up to date on all of you and the baby. Be careful rest enjoy.

Thank you both very much for your very nice words :)

We really can't wait to see how the crew will like the new "puppy" :D

  • Love the tum pic Kim, very artistic and different. It will be nice to show the baby when he/she is older :)
    Take care

  • Your tummy looks wonderful. Kas is quite the talented artist. Does he paint things other than tummies??:D

Maybe he could put his hand to Basenji portraits and make a few extra $$ to put toward that new horse farm or a baby college fund!!:D:D

I'm excited for you and Kas. Can't wait to see new baby pics here. I wonder if the dogs will give you a sign when your time is almost here. That would be sooo cool. They seem to already be keeping watch on you.

Kas, how about a preggers picture with all the pups like attentive midwives surrounding the soon to be new mom???

haha, we both like to draw and paint but Kas is really good at "just" put someting great on paper (or tummy's, so far nothing else :D:D) in a few minutes..
He likes to draw fantasy figures like dragons, castles and of course ships.. :)

A friend of us had a German shepard and when she was pregnant of the second child, the dog went to sit on her lap and won't come of… after a few minuts her water broke and she had to go into labor! The dog felt it, and made her mommy calm when it started!

Tonight we're going to make new tummy pics (every month we'll do that) I ask Kas to make a nice pic of me and my "doggie midwives" :D

  • Maybe we'll get pics of you and the new baby??

  • You all do some of the coolest things you all are really going to be cool parents and have so much fun. I can hardly wait to see pictures and see whats next.

Sure! I will post a new fresh tread when the baby arrives!

    :D

First the greatest pic of all.. Chafuko just gave me a kiss…
I'm so happy Kas caught it on camera!

This is the way, the boys sit down when I sit down..
Hailey has her own couch, so I mostly go to her when she wants to hug the baby. (she isn't allowed to jump on the couch were we sit on.. she is a bit rough sometimes hahaha)

And the last one, just me and my tummy.. (I was thinking about cutting my head off the pictures because I hate it to be on a picture.. but okay.. at least I smile!)

  • Houston

Kim, you look smashing..I can not believe you are about to have a baby..
The pic with you and all the dogs on the couch is great. My dogs were the same way when I was expecting many moons ago.
Our mutt, Lou, actually acted really weird before my water broke,so I knew that it was getting close..he wouldn't leave me alone, walked right behind me the whole day and night, so close that I always joked, if I were to stop his nose would be in my butt..LOL.

@Saving so nice to hear there's other people with the same problem! We have been giving regular baths to our b, so I don't know if that really helped or not. Anyways, it took a while for me to bring Nova again to the dog park, because I was a bit afraid the same situation would happen again. I was there a couple of days ago, and no one tried to hump her. (I must say all dogs had same age approx.) Thank you for your comment replies! :)

Sparkle Barkle came into heat in April. Logan went nuts! I was traveling so my wife was saddled with the mayhem. Mayhem doesn't begin to describe the situation. Sparkle should be coming in again within days, I hope, and unfortunately, he won't get any love this time either. He's gonna be a massive handful for at least a MONTH. I'm not traveling this time, so it's all on me. Cross your fingers for Tri females. I want three!

@sarahmiri - I would say no to carrying him.... don't pick him up, but get down to his level as Zande pointed out in her response.

IMO it is a myth that Basenjis cannot have good manners on a walk. Yes, great if you can do off leash, but when circumstances dictate that a leash is necessary then walking calmly without a lot of drama and pulling should be achievable. Personally I do not like long lines or flex leashes. Or allowing dogs to eat whatever they find on the ground, which can in some cases earn you a trip to the vet or worse. Like most dogs, Basenjis are not overly discriminant about what they will ingest. A short leash and being observant can protect them from unwelcome outcomes. Mental exercise will also go a long way with any dog. But one should have a definite opinion about who is running the show, and it should not be the dog....they are quite willing to take up the position should you abdicate.

Just thought I'd share an update on this. I removed the blankets from the crate and replaced them with a mattress. We have been strict about her only staying in the crate at night. When we have had accidents I have cleaned up, with a dog urine killing spray, and placed her back in the crate. Everything is progressing smoothly, not had any accidents for over a week now. So it's been a rather quick turnaround, lovely to have her properly crate trained again. Thank you all for sharing advice on the situation.

Agree with Debra: apart from any medical issues, it looks like he is protecting the new life. Cute as it may be, it's not his job. Your husband should step up to the plate and take first position in a clear way. All the best!
