My female B gets humped all the time!

    Hi! I need some help. My female B (9 months old)gets humped by male dogs all the time. She loves playing with other dogs, so I take her regularly to the dog park/playdates with friends. She has been humped everytime we meet male dogs. She had the heat 2 months ago, so I do not know why other dogs go so crazy when they see her (maybe she's just a real beauty??)

    The other day I was walking her in the neighborhood, and another woman asked me if the dogs could say hi. That other dog immediately jumped on my basenji. With the leashes on.

    Another day, with a friend's dog, we were at home and the male dog even ejaculated on the floor.

    I don't know what to do, because my B never says no to these other male dogs. She never tells them to stop, and I think she believes they are playing.

    I am terrified everytime I see that, specially when the dogs are bigger than her.

    Anyone with the same problem? Anyone who can give me any advice??? I don't want her to stop playing with other dogs!! She's so happy when she meets other dogs!!! :(

    Not much you can do if she is accepting the behavior..... and on another note, you need to make sure she is not in season, even if it was just 2 months ago... that or that she has some sort of infection going on that is leading males to believe that she is in season. Vet visit is in order to make sure there is nothing going on in that respect. Have you discussed this with your breeder?

    I have exactly the same problem at the same age 9 months with Safi. She had her heat at 7 months also. I gave her a good bath a couple of weeks back and it's much better now, back to the normal sniff and she's left alone, aside from one very persistent dog she sees in the park but she's slowly learning to defend herself against him.
    The smell of the season hangs around long after it's finished apparently.

    What a great solution! So simple and attainable, smarty!
    I'm sure it's not going to 100% effective, but it would certainly help (or at least confuse the males).

    The difference has been remarkable, one day she had all of the males in the dog park after her, a week later the same dogs, only one was interested and he was after her from before her season, he's just a horny dog!

    @Saving - Disagree with the comment that "season" hangs around long after it is finished.... but a bath can't hurt... but of the reasons that dog parks do not let/want in-tact dogs there. And a reason I never go to one.

    oh, I don't! At least not the way I'm taking the comment. I suspect you are referring to an individual female finishing her cycle. I am referring to the area she (or other girls) were in. I'm not sure how long the "smell by" date lasts environmentally, but I've seen more than one park full of very confused boys!

    When "mating season" is in the air, the males can smell it... and the poor fellows become so confused about which girl is giving off the scent that they will try to mount any of them -- whether that girl is in heat, or not. While your girl might not be giving off a scent any longer... the boys could be picking up on lingering aromas from other girls in the area and (to them) any girl in the vicinity is fair game.

    (I still think the bath was pure genius!)

    I can only say what worked for me really, it's something the o.p. can try, if it works, great!

    @tanza thank you! I checked with the vet, and everything seems fine :) they told me this probably happens "because she's a teenager"

    @Saving so nice to hear there's other people with the same problem! We have been giving regular baths to our b, so I don't know if that really helped or not. Anyways, it took a while for me to bring Nova again to the dog park, because I was a bit afraid the same situation would happen again. I was there a couple of days ago, and no one tried to hump her. (I must say all dogs had same age approx.)

    @kembe When she finally was put to sleep in my Arms I felt like I had lost my kid. I am sure many feel the same way. I will get another from a relation but I have to wait for my 14-year-old Killer Cat to pass. I refuse to euthanize a healthy animal and I know if I brought a Puppy or a Kitten here she would kill again. The thing is Cats kill other Cats more often than most people think. She killed my fave Cat and I have had at least 30 since I was 15 years old, and that silly little Cat with the Mustache was so delightful it will take me a very long time to get another Cat. The loss of my B and my fave Horse who was 25 nearly killed me. My Horse could have lived much longer but he had EPM which Dogs can get too. It is a parasite that the animal gets from eating grass that Raccoons and Opossums have left their Scat on and there is not a cure. It is basically Animal Multiple Sclerosis which cannot be cured but it can be managed. German Shepherd Dogs and the Belgian Malinois have something that causes them to lose strength their Hind Legs but that is not EPM. My Mom had a gorgeous Belgian Malinois and she treated him with Vitamin B12 Shots at the Vet and kept him as active as possible. He was pts when he was 14 years old and he was one of my favorite Dogs. He was brought to the US by his Handler who was a member of the Spanish Guard. He understood Spanish but took him a while to learn English. He also had a career as a Coke Sniffer at JFK. His name was 'Cokie'! I clearly love all animals and do not have a preference for Breed except for the Basenjis. The things that people have a hard time with are exactly why I love them! Horses are easy because they tell you all you need to know by reading their Body Language. Dogs are a bit harder because you may not have a clear idea of what horrible things have happened. Felines are a Mystery to me! Lupines are great but they are super quiet but are responsive to being part of the Pack. It is my experience that animals are rarely aggressive, they are DEFENSIVE. Sure there are dangerous Breeds like the Presa de Canario that have killed people. That is the exception and I think they are no longer allowed in the US. I am not sure of that though. :)

    We were doing really good with keeping our B out of the bed when we first got him. However, my fiance is the light sleeper and was responsible for kicking him out of bed. In contrast I am a very heavy sleeper and wouldn't feel Colbey climbing in bed when Ed wasn't home. Colbey learned very quickly that he could sleep in the bed when Ed was gone. And then, winter came. We keep the house pretty cool and Colbey would climb in the bed shivering, and that was the end of my resolve to keep the dog out of the bed. So now, the rule of the house is, animals are allowed in the bed, but only on my side. Needless to say, I have about 1/4 of the bed…... but, I am a cuddler, so I am ok with it. We are keeping our other dog out of the bed, mostly because there would be no more space left for me!

    We did go to the dog park on tuesday and Lenny did seem particularly wound up that day. Maybe there was a female around that was in heat. I suppose they shouldn't have been at the dog park if that was the case, but who knows. I know there was at least one other intact male there at the same time we were there. Surprisingly, they did not mess with each other. Poor little Tayda - always has to watch her back! Literally! ha ha.

    Thanks for the info! Yes we just got over the rain for the most part,,,,,,,thank goodness! What part of Maryland are you from? My aunt lives in Cumberland and the last time we were there we went to Rahobath beach (not sure of the spelling). We had a great time except for the DC traffic – we here in Southeastern Ohio are NOT use to that type of traffic! It was funny once my cousin (from Cumberland) came in town for a visit and we were going down one of our main drags on a Sat. morning and I said "Man,,I cant believe this traffic,,,,,its awful!" and she laughed and said I didnt know what traffic was! Well ,,,,,,,,,she was right,,,,,,,I couldnt imagine dealing with the DC traffic every day. About the furbabies though,,,,,,,they seem to be getting familiar with each other. Only a few minor scuffles today over a rawhide I forgot to get out of the backyard . Also, the marking has seemed to end-- we were a little worried. Lastly, the eating in there crates thing has worked out except our Bella (1st BRAT dog) has been dealing with some seperation issues again after we left her for the weekend to drive to Missouri to get Wrigley. Anyway, hopefully we will be one big happy family! One last thing, kudos to you and your wife for fostering so many dogs. My husband and I are considering volunteering for BRAT after this spring. My son is a senior and I am afraid as we get closer to the spring things will get crazy around here with all of his senior stuff.
