Senior boy needs a new home

  • @Jaroufa:

    Update on Quinn

Please pray for Quinn as I now find out that he has a very serious case of Lymes disease. He is not a happy camper and I'm trying really hard to make him comfortable. He has trouble walking as his wrist joints are so swollen.Have him on high dose antibiotics and arnica for pain.
I fear that his time with me is short, but I can only hope that the time he has had with me was more then he got from his last owner.
I now know why he was discarded.

    Kathryn and all the
    Jaroufa Hounds

I'm so sorry Kathryn to hear this. Did he just get it?

  • I am so sorry to hear about Quinn and his ill health. i will keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Dearest Kathryn,
I am sad to hear the news. That is so heartbreaking. I will pray for you both. When and how do you think he got Lymes disease. I'm so sad for you both. Maxie

  • What bad news, sending postive thoughts for Quinn

  • Kathryn, go to www.lymediseaseresource.com
Colloidal Silver A Safe Treatment For Lyme Disease.
Get this at health food store.
Need one in Glass and no more than 10 ppm and glass dropper.
    Plastic no good only glass.
Will not hurt him or what he is already on.
I do so hope he gets better. Take care.

    Rita Jean

  • Geez, poor Quinn. It's been one thing after another for the poor guy. Kathyrn, you're doing all you can. Thank you for that. As you stated, he may not have much longer, but in the short time you've had him back, I'm sure he has had a lifetime of love. Prayers to you and Quinn.

  • I think he has had it for a really long time and never was treated .

    Kathryn

  • how awful for poor Quin. To be discarded when he needs his family the most. Jaroufa - you're a good and dedicated to find the source of his problem. What's his prognosis?

  • Hugs to you for helping this old dear b boy…a special place in hell for the folks who dumped a senior dog... I just don't understand that type of thinking...but they are teaching their children to do the same to them, when they get old and have issues.
    Keep us posted on him.
    Hugs my unmet friend.

  • Oh no! Poor Quinn. The past few months have been rocky for him. You really are an amazing person for all you have done and continue to do for him. I'm sure he knows that he is loved now. Sending happy thoughts and hugs to both of you!

I agree, BRAT does get in pairs and ask they be adopted together plus BRAT works really hard to ensure placement are suitable and going to good homes. If your looking for a basenji savvy home them I would say "yes, getting the fanconi test will help getting them placed"…anyone not savvy or not caring to know about basenji genetic conditions won't care if theyre tested or not)

Yes, I sent an e-mail to Lori who handles the Basenji mixes and she sent an e-mail to the rescue. I did not see him listed under the Basenji mixes on the BRAT webpage though when I looked last week. Perhaps the rescue did not want to list him there. I would like him to at least go to a foster home. Jennifer

I feel like people need to be just as careful when choosing a rescue as they are when choosing a breeder. Rescues have been found to be hoarders, to be breeders labelling their dogs as rescues as a marketing ploy, or like PETA, to kill 97% of animals they "rescue". The impression I got of this rescue was that it was not one I wanted to work with because they seemed to hold some extreme views. I am delighted to hear that I was wrong and that this is a good rescue. The situation with the "breeder" is horrible, and I am glad this girl is finally being cared for. I agree that the breeder has earned herself a place in you know where. After Estelle passed away while my MIL was in the process of trying to adopt her she is a little gun shy. It is amazing how attached you can get to an animal you haven't even met. -Nicole

Taz has been in foster care through the Midwest Dog Resuce Network since he was turned over by the breeder (I believe around 8 months old). He had two sisters in foster care with him for a short time but they were adopted quickly. They were all shown on the BRAT website but were not evaluated by, or in the care of BRAT. He is such a handsome boy, I had given some serious thought to adopting him until they updated his profile to say that "he likes to be the boss". My female B absolutely has to be the boss of all other dogs (!) so I knew this combo wouldn't work out :( Here is the link to the organization caring for him: http://midwestdogrescuenetwork.com/default.aspx
