  • P. Rossi,

    Welcome to the forum!
You can make a new thread to introduce yourself. We love pictures!

  • Welcome to the forum Pirjo

  • Since first listing, I have adopted a 16 month old Basenji mix (I think with sheltie somewhere in there). So:

    Me - Susan

    Dogs: Shaye - Basenji
    Gemma - Basenji mix

    Cat: Missy

  • Hi Susan,
have we seen a pic of Gemma?

  • Welcome to the forum Pirjo. I love the pictures of your dogs on your website.

    Steve.

No, you haven't seen Gemma yet - attached is picture of Gemma, and another of Shaye. Gemma is lighter in color, and bigger around, and 7 months older than Shaye. She also has a drop of "obedience" in with the mix. Shaye has about decided most of her obedience training was only a suggestion if she was in the mood.

Oh - and lest we forget the strongest member of the pack, attached is a picture of the cat, Missy, on our last motorhome trip - she owns the area over the cab, and God help any dog who tries to get up there.

Susan, those are great pics. Gemma is very pretty, wonder what her mix is? I love how dark red Shaye is, beautiful and the queen, she looks just like a queen.

Thank you Basenjimamma! At the dog park, the general consensus among the Basenji owners I talk to is that Gemma probably has some Sheltie in her - she has little "skirts" and her face has that look about it somewhat. Her hair is longer, with a "rufflike" collar. The Basenjis think she's one of them and she certainly "packs up" with them and stays with them.

As to Shaye's color, yes, we are really happy with how dark she is - I've been told when she blows coat, it will lighten, and then darken again. Whatever, she certainly does think she's the queen. Although Gemma is 7 months older, Shaye pretty much sets the pace and rules the roost. She runs Gemma ragged and is the last one to stop.

We are very glad they get along so well - as you know, it sometimes doesn't work that way with grrrrrrrrrrrrls. :D

  • Maybe it's better to start a new thread about Gemma.. This one is for telling who you are and which dogs are yours :) ;)

  • Sorry - was just answering questions.:(

  • Susan, lovely pics, sorry it was me who asked you to post them. we get carried away in threads :D

Eldorado does litter box train and they were always very successful at it when I visited..I know they line the outside of the box with newspaper too..so I would make sure to do that also so she's as familiar with the process as she can be. I would suggest if you can't get her to start using it for pooping soon to just get her a coat and start outside. The longer she goes without pooping where you want her to the harder it'll be when you need to change it. Bad habits develop fast. I wish I started Oakley outside right away versus litter training. He always would pee in it but he wouldn't poop in it. He got very used to pooping next to the box on the kitchen floor and to this day prefers going on hard surfaces. I know it's hard to imagine potty training outside in this weather but you might be better off in the long run. I'm not against the litter box, I also have an eldorado pup; I just know the entire process would've been easier and more beneficial to is both if I braved the weather and did it in the first plAce

Whatever she is, she's a little doll. It's nice to know that the displaced pups are finding such good homes.

We look at Jaycee like when our daughter started to crawl and got into everthing. I can only hope for Jaycee as our daughter is eighteen and still getting into things. Rita Jean

Thanks to all for your hartwarming welcome…. Barklessdog, I get you on the corny feet hahahah I smelled it...hihii still it's hardly an odor... Yes we are happy to bring our dog with us. We are not heading for the south but rather to the northeast to a place called Bibione... We might consider going more south another year...and meet up with Edward.... We do have a yearly beachwalk with only basenji's this year we cannot do it because walking on the sand would yet not be wise due to his bonegrowth... Kind regards to all of you!
